I am getting rolling with my new S4 after having an S3 for a year, and have come down to my last couple of little aggravations. I was using MailDroid for a few days, but decided that I am more interested in squeezing as much battery life out as possible so I uninstalled it because it's ad-supported and has to go retrieving all those little ads... Back to the stock email client, loaded it up and retrieved all my email from my ISP's mail server - I have a couple hundred messages I'm just holding onto and so my phone now thinks I have all these unread mails. I can't find a way to mark them as read so the little number on the screen really reflects new unread mail. Has anybody found a way around having to scroll through all these mails? And can you still swipe across the screen to go to the next message, and tap on the top of the phone to zip to the top of your inbox? these don't seem to be working on this new phone. Thanks...

Open your email app. Within the inbox tap your capacitive menu button (lower left next to home button), choose sort by>read/unread, then go to top of unread emails, place a check in the box on the left of the top banner just above the top most unread email, this will select all of the unread emails, look on the lower right of the screen and you will see what looks like an email envelope symbol with a check mark on it, tap that and it mark all the unread emails as read.

Swiping left and right will move you from email to email within your inbox. It does take a persistent swipe and at least in my case is a bit slow to respond.

Moving from top to bottom in your email list can be done quickly by touching the screen and moving up or down, when you do this you will see a slider appear on the right screen border, touch the slider and you can scroll up or down very fast.

OMG you're the man! I have been googling around for that piece of information for awhile now, and nobody else seemed to now. I would not have known that it would magically become available just by selecting one or more messages. Thank you very much. Now to figure out why I'm getting no Twitter notifications on my new phone, whether from Carbon or the standard Twitter app... or from Instagram either...

Glad I could help. Can't give you advice on Twitter though haven't ever used it. Still living in the dark ages as far as that goes...
