S4 thinks every usb cable is a dock. How to disable?

A couple of days ago my S4 popped up a message about needing to download some Samsung app to handle docking. Except I don't have a dock. Just usb cables in the car and on the nightstand for charging. Now when I plug in a cable it says it is docked... constantly. Screen keeps popping back on to tell me dock is connected. Before I went to settings and turned off the docking sound the bloody phone was chirping constantly.

Any idea what I can do to tell it I don't have a dock and stop telling me it is connected?

I put the straw nozzle of a can of compressed air really close to the USB port and gave it a good long blast.

And the problem is gone.
