S5 is constantly downloading over wifi

I recently moved to android phones and I don't know the OS yet.
I have an issue with my new S5. When I am connected to wifi at work, it's constantly downloading something (30kb/s~70kb/s - from Internet Speed Meter), with everything turned off - sync, auto update, back up...
The interesting thing is that only happens when I am connected to wifi at work. Transfer rate is down to zero when I am on LTE and at home, wifi transfer is within normal range. I mostly have download and very little upload recorded by the speed meter.
I checked the OS update and it is up to date, so no OS download. I installed battery doctor, clean master and cm security and with everything turned off manually and by these apps, I still have this constant internet traffic over wifi.

Just to make an idea about what I am talking here: over weekend I had 135mb (wifi at home) and only Monday I had 731mb (wifi at work) and 50mb (wifi at home)

When I look at Data Usage, first line is Android OS.

What can I do to stop this transfer? Can it be something from work? Can it be something from my phone? I am thinking to do a factory reset, but the phone is just 1 month old.

Thanks
Claudiu

Welcome to Android Central! To clarify, it's not exactly downloading--it's more like information transfer. Downloading implies it's downloading a file or app into your storage.

Does your work wifi require any special security besides a password? Do you have to enter a proxy? I wonder it that might lead to behavior like this.

If it's doing it only on WiFi, have you checked any cloud backup services? Apps like Dropbox or Google Photos have the option to only back up your files while on WiFi, which is why you wouldn't see it on mobile.

Just a simple password for work wifi, and I do have my Google account linked with the phone, including Photos, but I forgot to mention that I have Power saving mode on with background restriction on and I still have that transfer happening.
BTW, I don't have photos in the phone to be uploaded on Google photos

Then it does sound like some sort of security packet going back and forth... It's not uncommon in corporate networks, but you could confirm this by asking a coworker to see if their phone has the same kind of data transfer.

Look like something was wrong with my phone. I did a factory reset and everything is back to normal.

Well, at least it's not doing it now. Weird that it was with a single WiFi though

My s5 is doing the same thing. Only on my home WiFi, not on 4g and not on any other WiFi. I have done a factory reset and removed the SD card and still it does this. My wife's phone also a s5 is not having this issue.

I have set all my apps to require my permission before they update. I have factory reset my phone. I am still getting a continuous use of my WiFi with a definite reduction to WiFi bandwidth. About 15 to 20Mbps. And all this only on my phone. Wife has same phone with same OS updates. This did start happening after I did the last update for my OS.

Seems like I got the endless Wi-Fi usage to stop finally. After a factory reset and then I used Keis and completely reinstalled 5.1.1 with no luck. It still was using a lot of Wi-Fi data as well as draining my battery. I figured it was the interaction with the router at my house. As this was the only time it was always talking over Wi-Fi. I started an old router and connected it. The problem stopped.
I then went to the previous router and changed to a private network that does not broadcast the ssid and changed the channel from 9 to 8, and changed the passwords. So far so good it looks like the problem has stopped. Maybe someone was watching my phone.
