S5 pre-installed task killer?

I have a new S5 and since I started using it something keeps killing my running apps! I'm at the latest firmware update and I don't have an app task killer installed but certain apps I use & want to run just suddenly stop! The most important an app I use to keep my phone connected to the network! Also my live wallpaper always stops & Chrome & my installed keyboard & an app I love "Custom Notifications" which keep apps I use often in my notification bar!
I know I'm probably the only person to complain about a task killer working! The only app I have that even mentions task killing is my AVG which I don't think runs it automatically. Does the S5 have some kind of auto task killer pre-installed I don't know about? I know I'm not killing them by accident! Does anyone know of a setting in AVG doing it I'm missing? I don't have the power saving or ultra power saving running.
Any ideas and help would be very much appreciated! :'( Please help!
This wasn't happening on my S4 which had almost all the same apps running?!

Hello and welcome to Android Central crested188!

Thank you for your post.

There are currently 41 different models of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and over 3,000 different stock Samsung firmware versions, worldwide, covering 6 different Android platforms, Android 4.4.2, Android 4.4.4, Android 5.0, Android 5.0.1, Android 5.0.2 and Android 5.1.1. Not all issues will affect all models or firmware releases and your answers to the following questions will help in the forum's answers to your specific query.

#1. Could you post your Model number and Android version...

To locate these, go to...

Settings > More > About device > Model number and Android version

This will give you the model of Samsung Galaxy S5 that you have and which Android version you are on.

#2. Your current Firmware, (not just Baseband), version .

To locate your current firmware version, go to the stock, Samsung, dial pad and type in...

*#1234#

This will give you your, "Version", details in full, usually 3 lines of information, AP: CP: CSC:, which may all be relevant.

*** If code *#1234# has been disabled on your firmware, you can download and install, free from the Play Store, Phone INFO ★Samsung★ and it will give you, under Firmware Info... PDA, Baseband, CSC, versions.

#3. Also helpful would be your carrier, (service provider), location, (UK, India, Russia, USA, etc: ), and if your phone is rooted or not and running a custom ROM, (give details).

Thanks. The above helps us to help you and hopefully someone will be able to reply to you shortly. :)

For more information, see, 41 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide

Also you could check what apps are listed under Device Administrators in your security settings. There's a chance that the task killer will be included there. And you're right to complain about this kind of apps :)

Edit. Some phones and carriers are including Clean Master in their preinstalled apps. Maybe that's the one you're looking for.

You might look under "Developer Options". Don't know if this effects what you eluded to or not.

I don't have Developer options turned on. Should I turn it on & select 4 processes to keep running?

I don't see Clean Master listed in apps & under phone administrators the only thing checked is Android Device manager which allows me to lock my phone if stolen supposedly; should I un-check that box?
I forgot I also have AppBrain AD Detector running but I don't see anything about killing apps just blocking notifications. Should I ditch it & see if it helps?

And THANK YOU all so much for the tons of ideas & help!!! No one ever posted anything at the Samsung S forum!

You have the latest firmware for the U.S. carrier minority variant, G900V, for Verizon. You will NOT have the new Smart Manager app that Samsung have added to their latest worldwide releases which, by the way, is not a task killer, as we know it.

My phone is not rooted yet because I'm having problems keeping connected to the network in some areas were I live & I want to b***h at Verizon about it! I don't want to void my warranty just yet...DAMN KNOX!!!

Don't worry about rooting... you can't, ever! See, Verizon's new OE1 & OG5 updates prevent downgrading or rooting

All Android phones have their own built-in form of task killing that frees up RAM when needed and you shouldn't normally worry about having low RAM on your phone as unused RAM is wasted RAM on Android. Never, ever, use task killers. See, Android Task Killers Explained: What They Do and Why You Shouldn't Use Them

Unfortunately, the Verizon firmware holds the title of having the most bloatware, pre-installed, of any S5 on the planet. See #1.6 of 41 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide. These 20 or so, non Samsung apps, can, in some cases, run in the background and means that the phone needs to do more swapping of RAM and closing of apps than, say, a stock unbranded phone. This leads to lags and of course, battery drain.

Also, you mention that you have AppBrain Ad Detector which has not been updated for more than a year now and may not be fully compatible with Lollipop, not all apps in the Play Store are. You could try disabling or uninstalling this app and running your phone for a day to see if it makes any difference. You could also try the same procedure with AVG antivirus.

You can see all the applications that are running on your phone by going to...

Settings > Application manager > Running (scroll across)... this shows apps that are running at any given time as well as RAM usage.

Some apps that you may not use, can be disabled by following the instructions in #1.9 of S5 Lollipop Update Problems - Dummies Guide
