S5 says it's not charging when I'm not trying to charge

My charginger port has been broke for a long time. I have an external charger.

Just starting today, I'm constantly getting alerts that my battery is not charging when I'm not even trying to charge it. A red "x" keeps popping up on the battery icon and a message pops up to use my original charger. Of course every time the red x pops up, it lights up my screen. I turned the pop up message off because it was coming up every couple of seconds. Any ideas?

The charger port is broken. That can cause the problem you describe. But you already knew that it was broken. Have it fixed or leave the message turned off.
