Phonearena just did a speed comparison between the galaxy S5 and the Iphone 6. I generally think it was a pretty fair comparison, with both phones edging out each other in various test (Literally split seconds between the two). The only complaint I had with the test is that in the cases where the Iphone opened an app a split second faster than the s5, the tester said the s5 had a slight "lag", but did not say the Iphone lagged when the opposite was true. In my opinion, the word lag as it relates to the s5 is spewed way to much, and it stems from a general lack of understanding of what "lag" TRULY means. In short, even if the iphone6 had opened all the apps that were tested split seconds faster than the S5, is that cause to make a big deal about or cause for envy or being unhappy with your phone be it the S5 or any other phone for that matter? Milliseconds Really??!!.

iPhone 6 vs Samsung Galaxy S5 speed comparison: which is faster?

Question: If, as the joke goes, an iPhone 6 is "from 2012", and it opened up more than half of the apps faster than the Samsung phone, then what year is the Galaxy S5 really from?

The so called lag OS really due to the animations speed, set in the OS by Samsung. Go into the developer settings and set them to half. You will see a significant speed improvement

What???...I can't answer that question. I have never heard of that "joke" and even if i had it does not make any sense to me.

Honestly, if you make a phone, and you also make the OS, and that OS only has to work on YOUR device (and not dozens of devices from several manufacturers), then it had better well open EVERY app faster, and a LOT faster at that. All my iphone friends brag about how smooth and speedy everything works on their phones, and that's why it's worth giving up all those features (SD card, swappable battery), so if the speed issue is close to a wash, it sort of negates the entire reason for having an iphone.

I actually liked this lil test... It just goes to show that speed isn't a huge difference. Additionally, as already pointing out, turning off or limiting animations gives a nice lil boost in speed.

But what many people fail to understand is that processors have gone through quite a few changes over the years. And simply comparing numbers vs numbers is simply ignorant because it's just not that simple. You have to take into account the number of cores being used, how efficiently cores handle the tasks, constant power being sent to the processor, heat and cooling, and things of that nature. I mean yes you can build a computer with a 12-core processor, but studies have shows that most video games work best with 4 cores. Or if you want a unit to surf the web, RAM is what you desire as opposed to a higher end processor.

Comparing processors is not really an apples to apples type thing.

In direct regard to the 2012 ad. It's focusing on phone features rather than power and effectiveness. Yes it has all the features of a 2012 Android, BUT think of it as a 2012 android with a 2014 processor. You're simply going to get a snappier interface and response. Does it make it better than the Androids now? Well it depends on the user and what the user desires. But ultimately, A vs B, it comes down to the interface and features the user will take most advantage of.

I stick w/ Android because it's an open OS, I have more control and customizations, and I LOVE my SDCARD slot as well as removable battery... All of these things Apple is strongly against. Now if Apple adopts these things later on, I may consider them. But until then, they're not even an option for me.
