S6 Active Mic Issue. Hardware or Firmware?

I have an s6 active.

Voice recording works flawlessly. Infact I'm very impressed by the quality, being a musician.

However during voice calls, the mic sometimes doesn't work, other end cant hear me.
When using hands-free, they cant hear me ever.. Yet I can set my phone down on a table and record my voice from 2m away and hear it fine.

What on earth is going on?
