S6 Active to Nexus 6P video comparison

I bought the Nexus 6P and now I'm trying to decide if I'm keeping it. I am realizing I really like my Active and now that I factory reset it, it is behaving very well. I'm just adding an app at a time as I need them, so if one causes slowdown, I will be able to pinpoint it. I digress, I created a comparison of 1080p videos taken with both the S6 Active and the Nexus 6P. The Active can record HDR video at 1080p which the 6P cannot. Despite that, the 6P video was decent. It was better than Active with HDR off, but a little less bright than the Active with HDR on. I picked scenes where there was a lot of light and a lot of shadows. I noticed in most normal lighting situations, HDR doesn't make much difference. The Active can also record 1080p at 60ps, but for this test I just stuck with 30fps. I overall prefer having the options that the Active has. Wish the Active had come with 64GB though. Its really easy to fill up the free space on the Active.

I would love to know what you decided in the end. Like you, I was having troubles with the Active and factory resetting it yesterday made most of the problems disappear. But the Nexus 6P is very tempting with the quick update compared to our reliance on AT&T.

I have both. I only use the active when near water or camping so not that often. Got my nexus 6p yesterday and it is an upgrade over the nexus 6 with a more manageable size, fingerprint scanner which is excellent and a better camera.

The S6 line has superb cameras so if that is important I would keep it. The nexus line cameras have not been great until the 6p, but still not up to the S6 in my opinion.

That's exactly how I feel. 6p camera is good, but it is slow to take HDR and the video options are limited. Also there isn't any good way to edit video and no way to preserve slow motion transitions. I like having options, feel like the 6p doesn't offer that much over the Active. Now if I hadn't bought the Active and was upgrading from my Nexus 5, I would love the 6p. As it stands now, I might return the 6p and get an iPhone 6s+, fun to have both devices to play around with and code for both.
