Reading about media server problems on here seems to point to Chrome as being the culprit. My phone is also running super hot if I'm on it for more than a couple minutes. I'm going to try getting rid of Chrome and see if that helps.

No, that is just one person.

Media server is an old bug and Google doesn't know what causes it.

I would have transferred the music audio to a pc and do a factory reset.

If the device heats up in use you have a problem. With a 14 day period without a phone FDR...

I think I'm going to have to do that. I went to Sprint last night and they hooked it up to a tester. Battery came back as fine of course. I deleted Chome and also changed my theme back to stock last night. Immediately restarted and checked my battery usage to see no Media Server. Still as of now it's not there but still having draining issues. Maybe not as bad as yesterday but not good. 79% compared to 69% yesterday. So maybe media server was a problem but not the whole problem?

I'm still running chrome and my media server isn't an issue right now but my battery still isn't good.

My phone is also a year old this month and all of a sudden my battery time is shrinking. I just don't get it. I don't have any app with the name Media Server showing.

Has anyone had any success with a factory reset curing the problem? It is a lot of work to do one and I would hate to just waste the time if it isn't going to accomplish anything.

Well I finally bit the bullet and did the nasty. So seems like my battery life is back to normal, but too soon to tell for sure yet. The big surprise to me was that I gained 15G of space. I am a pretty good manager of space and don't have tons of garbage lying around, but after reloading all the apps and setting all the settings and putting my pictures and music back on, I had 15G more available than before the reset. Beats the hell out of me how the various cashes could have used that much but I will say that this is the first reset since the phone was new, about a year ago, whereas my last phone, a S4, had to be reset about every 3-4 months to keep performance up.

In searching for mediaserver chrome battery drain, I just ran across this from today. Google rebuilds mediaserver for Nougat..... link to page on Androidandme

Google rebuilds mediaserver for Nougat that opened door for Stagefright exploits | Android and Me

Could all of the mediaserver issues actually be from Chrome? I read many other posts that it was connected. After my initial battery drain and mediaserver showing up on top of the battery usage list, I deleted Chrome. No problems since. Before doing this, I cleared the media storage data but that messed up a lot of things I had to then fix. Leaving Chrome off for a while.

I I have a Note 5, not the S6 but I was searching all the threads for Mediaserver / battery drain / overheating issues. There are a number of them currently!
