s6 edge/ WIFI speed problems

I need some insight.

I have Xfinity internet. I have 75/10 speeds.
I have an HTC one M8, using Ookla speedtest I get 75-80 mbs consistently

I recent bought a S6 edge, using the same ookla app on the same wifi network, I get 35-40 mbs consistently

it seems the edge cuts my speed in half. Ive ran the test side by side, 80 mbs on the HTC, 40 mbs on the S6 edge. over and over and over.
whats the deal here? Its not a speed cap, Ive seen tons of videos touting the s6 edge as the leader for wifi speeds. it outperforms everything and Ive even seen it get 200 mbs, while iphones were getting 160.

I like to test my speeds from time to time and the HTC seems to be the only device that accurately tests it and I have no idea why. Id hate to keep this old phone around simply to get accurate speed tests. I just can figure out why my s6 edge is getting "half" the speed it should.

Ive messed with every setting in the router to no avail, but i know its not my wifi, it has to be the device, otherwise the HTC wouldnt be getting such an accurate speed. My xbox one plugged through ethernet even gets 60- 70 mbs. (wifi gets 35-40, so thats cut in half too... weird)

any ideas?

Welcome to Android Central! Does the router have both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands? If so, is one phone on one band and the other on another?

no. router is 2.4 only

yes... every test is completely identical in every way.
Both get 9-11 ms pings. both get 6-10 mbs uploads

How do you know the M8 is accurate? You just stated your Xbox one via wifi is the same as your Edge is getting...

Plus even with 75/10 Internet service, your router has to be able to support those speeds.

What kind of router are you using? The one that Comcast gave you with the modern combined? Or a separate one?
