S6 overheating, possible faulty temp sensor?

So my S6 recently started displaying messages that it was overheating, and it's closing applications. Eventually after a few minutes, it displays another message saying that it's shutting down due to overheating. It does this after a restart, without opening any applications, in a cool room. The thing is, it doesn't feel even slightly hot. And it appears to be running normally, with no abnormal battery drain. GSAM shows the temperature rocketing up to between 160-197 degrees F, which should be so hot that it would burn my hand, but again, not even slightly hot. I've tried restarting, clearing the cache partition, no change. It shows around 120-130 deg as a baseline, and then shoots up to over 160 if I use it at all. Nothing abnormal about which apps are using battery. Android OS, Android system, display, etc at the top. I hadn't yet run the Marshmallow update, so I went ahead and ran it, and then updated all of my apps. Same problem. Took it to Verizon store thinking RMA, and they did a soft reset, and then ran some Verizon health check tool that showed Alarm Clock Plus with a 36 minute wakelock, so they told me to uninstall the app, and if that doesn't work, try factory reset. I uninstalled Alarm Clark Plus, and no change.

I'll also add that I have made no recent changes leading up to the start of this problem. Will try a factory reset tonight, but wondering if anyone else has run into this. I doubt a factory reset is going to help, and I'm still thinking RMA, but we'll see what happens.

Try booting into Safe Mode, which temporarily disables all 3rd party apps. https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-21007

If the problem disappears in Safe Mode, then something you installed is causing the problem. You may have to uninstall apps one by one until the problem disappears. If the problem persists in Safe Mode, then it's more likely to be a hardware or firmware problem. Has there been any water exposure?

Tried safe mode, and factory reset, no change. It actually wouldn't even charge when powered off, still thought it was overheating. Verizon is sending an RMA.
