S6 radio frequency support for US carriers

Re: S6 radio frequency support for US carriers LTE-A?

I'm currently with Verizon and am planning to buy an S6 outright w/ plans to switch to cricket eventually. Since Cricket runs off AT&T, what kind of service will I have with a Verizon S6?
Bad mostly. You'll be missing Bands 12 and 17. You need at least one to get AT&T's main LTE deployments.

Re: S6 radio frequency support for US carriers LTE-A?

Does the Galaxy s6 support LTE-Advanced?
Since they dropped the QUALCOMM chipset for the modem I wonder if that was also dropped.
Also is there an IR port on the s6?

The chip set does support lte-a. However it is up to the individual carriers if they wish to utilize it

Re: S6 radio frequency support for US carriers LTE-A?

It says S6 will have LTE band 5, but will it be available out of the box? Because i travel to South Korea often and the CDMA network there uses Band 5 as their main band. But I know for the LG G3 the phone had to be rooted in order to activate those bands...

Thank you =]
Not sure. The fcc filing doesn't indicate whether or not the band is locked.

You would probably get 4g at most. It doesn't support att primary band 17 lte. It does support secondary lte bands, so you might get 4glte, but not likely

Hi All,

Must admit I'm a random redirect in search of an answer from this apparently quite-knowledgable community.

I have a family plan on AT&T, but am looking to escape soon to T-Mobile. I want to buy an S6 off-contract with an eye toward moving to T-Mobile in about a year. From what I can see from the fantastic chart, most of the frequencies are supported between both carriers. As a practical matter though, will I face a decline in LTE or other data-related performance by taking an AT&T S6 to T-Mobile?

Thank you!

Overall, you should work fine other than 4g aws. Also keep in mind features like wifi calling might not work.

Thank you. Actually... would it also work the other way? Could I purchase a T-mobile S6 and have that work decently well on AT&T in the interim?

Thanks again!

You can, although the tmobile Note 4 doesn't have band 29 and 30 support. Granted these in very limited deployment, so it shouldn't matter too much.

Thank you. Eh. Just saw that horrible AT&T branding though. Who doesn't hate carriers?

I am in the process of doing the exact same thing as you w my 5 lines. I'm porting two of them in tomorrow when i get the 6. 2 lines w unlimited data for $100. each additional line $40 each for unlimited. That's crazy...or less if some lines do not need all that data.
I tested t mob in my area with a prepaid and noticed a big improvement over 18-24 months ago when I last tested them. The corp store even gave me..gave me..a cell booster for no charge..said.."take it if you want to test out"....and even offered a asus wifi calling router if i'd like it. only charge for them if one cancels service and does not return them. I did not need the booster in the house but set it up anyway and I went from 3 bars to full from my basement to the 2nd floor.

I just like how t mobile handles their phones (no logo..less bloat..unlockable in 40 days) and their whole attitude...

Hi people! Thanks for this thread, its very helpful. I have a question that I hope someone can help me with...
I want to buy the Verizon version of the Galaxy S6 to use with Metro PCS which I'm pretty sure uses T-Mobile's network for their GSM service. Reason why I want the Verizon one is I'm told that it comes factory unlocked & mostly because I have a $100 credit with Best Buy and they don't carry the T-Mobile version. My question is if I will still be able to get 4G LTE using the Verizon model on Metro PCS (or T-Mobile) wherever the service is available?
Thanks in advance! :D

No. You've got Bands 2 and 4, which are T-mobiles main LTE bands, but you're missing Band 12, which T-mobile is deploying as widely as they can. So you won't pick that up.

You'll also be missing T-mobiles wifi calling, which is generally a feature worth having.

Bottom line, you could theoretically do it, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Best buy carries T-mobile prepaid, might be worth seeing if you can pick up a GS6 that way and then just activate it on a postpaid plan. Not sure if they're offering it yet for prepaid but they're bound to at some point.

You would also be missing aws 4g.

What if I wanted to buy a Sprint s6 edge, unlock it, then use it with Verizon? Would I have issues? If so, what issues?

Another question, I know Verizon uses nano SIMS for iphones, do they use them for the S6 edge as well? If that's the case, I could just pop in my verizon nano SIM into an unlocked s6 edge and go?
