S6 review said to be a masterpiece

I don't get a good feeling about the battery. A good review but going to hold out until some early adopters can provide some insight.

"if you’re more conservative and limit yourself to occasional web browsing, email checks and piddling around with apps, you should easily make it to bed before the S6 dies"

This just isn't good enough for me

So many variables it'll be hard to tell until there's real world data. I live in an area where the reception is not good which usually drains batteries quickly, I'm used to plugging in but find it a PitA. I can appreciate the drive to a smaller size which is a big seller for me, but gee, maybe a bit bigger wouldn't have hurt? It's almost reminiscent of the MotoX (2014) which has average life at BEST and the users just deal with it. I'm not a huge user of power, mostly calls, email, text, couple apps, so I might be ok but a bit more robust wouldn't have hurt either. Seems like they're pushing the edge here, not sure of the strategic thought here.

Unfortunately this might be the only choice for me, I'll have nothing to do with HTC after their clear lack of vision with their strategy, the LG might be too big, most of the others don't do it for me and also many aren't available on Verizon so I'm really holding out hope it's not as bad as it could be.

What about the Droid Turbo? I know it's just on Verizon, but I'm surprised it gets so little talk. Sure, it's a little "dated" as far as the processor goes since it runs the 805, but it turns out that may be a blessing since the 810 chip is horrible. It has a huge 3900mAh battery, wireless Qi charging, fast charging (60% in 30 minutes so it's better than the S6), splash resistant. In fact I was pretty set on getting that phone until the S6 was released and was blown away with the specs. However if the battery on the S6 truly is bad, I still may consider the Turbo. Only thing the Turbo doesn't have is the fingerprint scanning and Samsung Pay, obviously. But if you just want a phone with new tech and wireless/quick charging that has great battery life, it should definitely be considered.

Another plus to that phone in my book is the Moto Assist apps. Some of them are extremely useful.

I have the Turbo as my daily driver and I'm happy with it. You certainly can't beat the battery life. And it doesn't have a removable battery or sd card but I also have the 64gb version. I plan on selling my S5 for the next device and keep the Turbo as my back-up.

I don't have a good feeling about the battery either. I feel like that's gonna be this device's shortfall. I'm by no means the type of person who only uses their phone lightly. I just swap batteries with my S5, but that won't be an option with the S6. I know this is the direction the market is headed, but I feel like if the battery life was going to be lackluster, they should have made it a little thicker. Forget being thinner than the iPhone and give us good battery life. I might just end up buying a mophie when I get my S6 even though I don't like them that much.

Yeah I'm with you. A few months ago is when I realized my contract was almost up and I started doing some research. I was set on good/great battery life being my #1 thing that I wanted. Then the S6 was released and it blew away my expectations in every way EXCEPT what was my #1 thing. I'm a techy so it's hard to not want the latest and greatest which is the S6, but I'm scared that after a few months when the cool factor wears off then I'm stuck with a phone for another year and a half that lacks the one thing that I knew was my #1 priority.

I think by now it's safe to say that there are enough reviews out that the battery life isn't going to be great. That's not to say that it's going to be bad. I think if I'm convinced that it is above average and is about equal with what the S5 then I will buy without hesitation. If more reviews come out and they continue to say things like "with moderate usage you'll get a whole day" then I may have to look elsewhere. Only getting a full day with moderate usage on a brand new device means that a year from now you're not going to be getting that and you're going to be charging often. Even if it's charging quicker, you're still charging.

What are you guys talking about? The review said the battery was good. Only if you're shooting high def video all day then obviosuly it wont last long but he also said "And even if you do decide to stream video non-stop, you’ll still manage a solid seven to eight hours of entertainment before the battery runs dry. That’s well above average for a flagship phone." I think for most users the battery will be just fine.

Samsung made a conscious effort to improve every aspect of their device and it shows. I typically change phones every 2-3 months and I've held onto my Nexus 6 since November this time around because I had such high hopes for the S6. They didn't disappoint. To see Touchwiz be so fast, fluid, and responsive is a sight for sore eyes. It's going to be tough for another company to top this phone this year because aside from battery (and the jury is still out on that), this phone has little to no weaknesses.

So far only GSMarena said S6 battery life is average or less than S5. But I take that with big grain of salt because they apparently used MWC unit with preliminary software. It's not carrier optimized version either, so I don't see any point in their talk time number. Also their speaker test is not in line with others. There was another youtube video from samsung trainer guy and he said he used it throughout day with lots photo/video shooting, emails, browsing and got home in 9 hours with 43% left. That's pretty heavy usage and screen time must be easily over 3 hours for that time. So I will wait for final carrier version reviews until making call on battery life. I guess T-mo version will come out first as usual.

bahhh. i hate these initial 'reviews' that basically just spew the specs back out and then end off the article with "stay tuned for our real review later!"

edit: nevermind it was saying to stay tuned for the edge review

This would make me very happy.

I'm willing to take a small battery hit from the S5 because the S6 has wireless charging and fast charging to mitigate some of those issues.
To be honest, the battery life on my S5 varies from day to day and even week to week. There was a point in January where it was draining so fast I was doing battery swaps every other day. But lately I only swapped the battery once, but it was on the weekend and I could have gotten by with a straight recharge.

Nevertheless, "above average" is encouraging. And BTW, only the GSM Arena review said the battery was markedly worse than the S5. That mostly because the S6 had excellent 3G talk time that threw the battery score out of whack.

"Battery life is actually pretty good too, considering that bright, super-crisp power-sucking screen. If you mess around shooting high-def video and generally thrashing the Galaxy S6, it won’t last anywhere near a full day. However, if you’re more conservative and limit yourself to occasional web browsing, email checks and piddling around with apps, you should easily make it to bed before the S6 dies.

And even if you do decide to stream video non-stop, you’ll still manage a solid seven to eight hours of entertainment before the battery runs dry. That’s well above average for a flagship phone."

...although I'm not too happy with the battery, I can certainly deal with it. This will be a major downgrade from my Z3 in terms of battery life, but s long as it lasts me through the day I will be ok.

Let's step back and take a breath. The sky is not falling. Full disclosure. Will read article at lunch. Take any review with a grain of salt as they are still preliminary.

Agree....preliminary. Wait for more reviews from sites like Android Central, etc. Wouldn't be surprised if software updates hit prior to official release too.

My Nexus 5 still has 10% by the time i get to bed...what would be the equivalent to the S6? I know N5 is rated one of the worst battery phones.
