S7 and Google Photos for MMS?

Got my new Galaxy S7 today and really like it BUT when I try to send a picture via either Google Messenger or Hangouts, I am not able to see my photos stored in Google Photos (in the cloud-there are none on the device). I just get a spinning circle on the "Select a photo" screen after I choose Google Photos as the app to access for photos.

I'm sure I am doing something wrong or just have a setting that needs to be changed but surely I don't need to have photos downloaded to the device to send them as MMS, would I?

Thanks for any advice.

QUICK UPDATE-It seems to work fine with the stock Samsung Messages app so I really wonder if it is a setting in Google Messenger or Hangouts that needs to be adjusted to see the Google Photos gallery perhaps?

Hi, this is an interesting find, I too can't attach a Google Photos pic to Hangouts on my S7e. I don't have a fix apart from downloading the image then sending it, or going into Google Photos and sharing the image that way.
