S7 change wifi band

You can't, really. When you connect to a router, it'll have two different names for each band. That's how you 'change' it, by connecting to the appropriate network.

Are you sure your router is broadcasting the 5GHz one (some routers come with this one disabled by default or maybe it's hidden/non-discoverable). What about in other routers with 5GHz?

Also, some users have reported having units (most are AT&T reports) where BlueTooth affects WiFi, so try turning BT off before connecting to see if that helps.

i have a wrt 1900ac router. it broadcasts in 2 ghz and 5 ghz. my s7 doesn't see the 5 ghz band. how do i set the phone so it sees the 5 ghz band?

Also check to see if the 5ghz band isnt under the name of the default wifi name that may be why its not picking up

Yeah, there aren't any settings in the phone to turn on/off the 5GHz band...it just has both bands available. Does any other device see your router on the 5GHz band?

I would try seeing if you see the 5GHz from another router and if it doesn't work, maybe you have a defective unit :(

I have the same issue where my Sgs 5 and Sgs 7 were not able to see the 5GHz band of my Dlink travel router. It saw every other router's 5GHz band, but for some reason didn't like that router, makes me think something in the wifi chipset that Samsung uses does not like that particular configuration of 5GHz.

I forgot what I did to fix it, but it was on the router side, I think I set it to a specific channel rather than auto, or set it to 20/40 channel width, I can't remember.

Other than that, make sure the 2ghz and 5ghz bands have different ssid's, or you may be connecting without knowing it.

Mine hasn't had any issues showing my 2.4 and 5ghz bands. I use my 5ghz band solely for our cell phones and xbox. Have you tried resetting the router?

Checking to see if there are firmware updates for the router also helps with some devices.

Glad we could help (thanks Rlin for pointing us in the right direction!) and you got this sorted out! Also, could you tell us which channel you were using and which one solved it? I'd like to know if there are any 'unsupported' channels on the phone or if your house just has a crowded particular channel.
