AC Question

Having some issue with wifi, they have been somewhat re-occuring. I have an archer D9 router and initially my stupid phone kept defaulting to 5ghz and it behaved terribly so I finally disabled that in the router settings so it has no choice but to connect to 2.4ghz.

My router already does not have iPv6 enable so that shouldn't be it.

Basically what my phone does is it will be connected and then I leave it for a couple of minutes, pick it up to use it and it has disconnected and only sometimes automatically connects, otherwise when I go into wifi list it says 'no internet available' and yet if I tell it to connect manually it does and it works (not available my arse).

This also happens with an S6 Edge at my home but does not happen with my Alienware laptop, asus tablet or macbook pro, never disconnect, not even once.

I have gone through every possible setting in the phone and my router that I could find and cannot see anything in particular that would be causing this. I do seem to remember this being less of an issue before some recent upgrades to the phone (I have whatever the latest software etc is at time of writing).

If you haven't done so already, disable Smart Switch (settings -> wifi-> more -> advanced -> turn smart network switch off).

Also make sure that Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep is enabled, seeing as you mention that it happens when you put the phone down for a couple of minutes.

Finally, try to turn off Bluetooth scanning (settings -> location -> improve accuracy -> turn off bluetooth scanning). It's a feature you don't really need and has been known to improve Wi-Fi stability.

Hi, I am the OP (finally got the registration to work.

Smart switch and Bluetooth scanning already disable and Keep Wi-FI on during sleep already enabled.

Thank you for the quick reply!

That's pretty much it in terms of phone settings that I could come up with. Have you tried a backup and factory reset? Only do this if the problem developed over time though. Also try resetting your router. If the problem persists and it has been happening since the start it could mean you have a faulty device and you may want to contact Samsung.

Hi, I have had issues with both S6 Edge and now S7 Edge with my home wifi (though I had a different router when I had the S6 Edge), it appears to have gotten worse with time or possibly with updates to the phone.

I can try restarting both but I regularly power down both my router and my phone (router every night and phone every couple of days).
