Hello. Recently recieved a spam message using stock yellow background/ white envelope messages app.
My message app has no option to block a text/message. I tap more and there is not an option to block caller etc. How do I block? Using an up to date Samsung Galaxy s7.

My app:

Have you tried scrolling that menu? On my. S7, Block Message is the next option after schedule messages.

The two screen shots show all the options on the scroll.
After schedule message comes message options and priority level. Thats all the options.

Well that's weird. Is your S7 from a carrier?

For comparison here is the options in my phone (its an Edge but they should be identical). I should point out though that I'm using an international dual sim version.

Yes very weird. Everyone says they have the same options you do. I use verizon and bought it at a authorized verizon store. I switched to Textra message/text app. Works well and has blacklist option. Looks to be like block option I think.

It must be another reason. My S7 is T-Mobile branded, and I have the block option:

Well he is using Verizon. I mean Verizon disabled Samsung Cloud on their devices so that their subscribers will use Verizon cloud instead. At this point I'm willing to believe that they'll disable blocking on the stock app too.

Ah, OK. I understand what you mean now. I found some other threads here asking about a missing message blocking function, and the OPs have Verizon-branded phones too, so it sounds like you might be right.

On Verizon myself, and can confirm there is no option to block in the message options...

I noticed the Block option is also missing from my Verizon S7 in both the Messages and Message+ app.

I think that I see why.

Verizon has a competing service on My Verizon that blocks 5 numbers for free, but wants you to pay a monthly fee to block more than that.
Having a free service included with the phone that already does the same thing would cut into profits...

I had the same problem.

Its specific to Verizon. They do it to be able to charge the monthly upcharge for device management.

You have 2 options: restore factory settings, or sign up for their family base @ 4.99/mo. If you use their mgmt platform, which I did, and you have more than one line on the account, you need to make sure your line is the parent line and you set up blocked numbers for that line only. Otherwise, the number will be blocked for all lines.

Not much fun when a carrier disables a free feature only to turn around and charge you for the same feature. One of a thousand reasons I am not a fan of Verizon.

Hope this helps.

This is the same company that removed delayed response on their message so on the note 3. Verizon messages had the option. Even Verizon employees thought it was stupid. That is one of the areas that I live about iPhones, they tell the carriers what's what.
Apps like Textra are awesome. Verizon navigator, seriously?

I contacted Samsung and told them that Verizon is the only carrier that changed the no text block option. They couldn't do anything. What text blocker in the play store works with the Galaxy s7? Most don't work with anything above 4.4. Shame on Verizon for trying to make you pay for something that is free on all other carriers.

The new software update changed these things just to let you know. You can delay messages and block them as well

I have an Alcatel 5095L, my carrier is Metro PCS, but they use T-Mobile service. On this phone, I do not have any block calls or block text messages. My menus also look the same, but the spot where the "block" options should be, they are missing. So maybe Metro PCS/T-Mobile has also removed this feature?
