s7 or note 7

You get a pen and bigger screen for $200 more. Take your pick

I've just returned my Note 7 for an S7 and I like the smaller size much better. The batter also is better with the same apps/usage even though it's smaller in capacity, mainly because it has to power a small screen.

Cameras are the same

Verdict: Please buy the S7

Another thing to keep in mind is the Note 7 doesn't have any good screen protectors yet and it's easily scratched so you're out of luck if you have OCD like me. I had to buy the LED Flip case cover for it as none of the screen protectors I tried were good including the one from Spigen. some peel off right away the moment you inser your phone in a case and others like the Spigen one make the screen look dull and grainy.

with the S7, that is not a problem since it doesn't have an edge curved display

This. The 3000mAh battery in S7 might look small compared to S7E or Note 7 but it's powering smaller screen and doesn't have extra features like edge screen, S-pen. So real world battery life would be much closer than 17~20% difference in capacity.

I thought about upgrading to Note 7 from S5, but I cannot do it now anyway due to the recall going on. We don't know when it will be all fixed, settled down with new battery Note 7. So I will go for S7.
