S8 same camera as S7?

The sensor is the same. Is it actually better with the software updates? Doesn't seem too impressive. Anyone know?

It's likely the same 1/2.55" Sony Exmor IMX260 from the Galaxy S7.

Software can make a significant difference to a camera's performance, however. The S7 had one of the very best shooters last year, so starting off with that base is pretty good.

Seems like the same approach that Google took. Could be very good!
