Sprint Galaxy S8 S8+, Sprint Network/Ting.com- did Pie update, now i can't receive MMS w/out turning data on.

I'm not tech savvy- so please be nice (dumb it down for me : )

my phone kept telling me that I had to do an update - stupid me, I just did the update. While connected to Wi-Fi (I always keep my data turned off - I pay for what I use and 98% of the time I'm on Wi-Fi) - I cannot receive group text messages or texts w/attachments without turning my data on....not very happy. I tried "chatting" with a person at Ting, she tried telling me that I should already have to have data on for MMS, but I'm 94.4% sure that previous to Monday that was NOT true. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer!!

MMS works via data. You probably never noticed it before.

Ting doesn't send updates. Since you don't have a Sprint account, they won't either.
