S8 vs Iphone 8

Yeah, it should. But that digs into their pockets if you hold onto the phone longer than 2 years. Actually keeping a phone for even 2 years is a pretty long time nowadays. It sucks man but unfortunately that's just the way it goes and as long as their are people who jump ship to a different phone every 6 months it will just continue
I often jump ship but then I use the old device as a wifi pocket computer so I like it to last. Unfortunately they stop providing security updates which I think is shameful

I don't mind them trying to sell me a new phone. Just don't force me.

Yep pretty much every Android manufacturer is bad at this.. only direct from Google doesn't have to worry about it.

So would a VZW Pixel 2 provide security updates beyond 2 years? I don't care about OS updates. I find they often do more harm than good.

Yes.. the Verizon one still gets it same time as Google. However long Google said they'd support the Pixel is how long it'll continue to get updates.

Then with top of the line phones increasing in price yearly the Pixel 2 might be a better bet for me than a Note 8. I'll have to wait and see what the Pixel looks like.

Yep. Pixel 2 is on my radar as well.

Mix up the iPhone 7+, S8 and the original Pixel XL in a blender, that's it.

That goes with any phone including iPhones. If you try to update the iOS version a 3rd time you will start noticing some slowdown and lag. 2 iOS version (equal 2 years) or 2 years with the same or 1 Android upgrade on a different phone, that's about how it works now

I've never felt that way with iPhone updates but that's just me

If you don't mind sharing, what is prompting you to switch?
Mainly curiosity.

I haven’t used an iPhone as a daily driver in, like, ever. Since I’m approaching 6 years of nothing but Android phones as a daily, I’ve decided that I should probably give the iPhone a go.

How much do you customize your current phones?

Once you go iPhone, you won't come back. Especially if the iPhone 8 looks as amazing as predicted. You'll dabble with android, as I do, but Apple will steal your heart.

I'm keeping both my current Moto Z and whatever iPhone I end up with.

I never like choosing one or the other.

Apple still has this annoying "feature" where if you go to download or update some apps over 100MB, it not let you until you connect to a WiFi connection. Some people insist it's to protect the carriers from bogging down their networks but then, the limit doesn't exist on any Android phone that I am aware of.

On Android, you just simply get a warning and you can continue with your download. I still have a couple of iPhones jailbroken to get around some of these Apple limitations.

I'm still not expecting much of an update with the next iPhone so that is why I bought a S8+. If I do buy a second phone this year, it will be also be the Note 8 and I will continue using my 6S and 6S+ for iPhones.

Had iPhones since the 3G. I finally switched after my iPhone 6 to the S7. Personally, I'm not sure I can go back to the iPhone again. I'd miss the customization too much. Will likely get the S8 as soon as Best Buy has a decent sale for AT&T.

My experience with Samsung is they bog down after about 18 to 24 mos. If you buy a new phone every year it's not a problem.
I used my Note 2 for 3 years and never had an issue. The only reason I switched to an S7E was I was tired of carrying 2 phones (work and personal, dual SIM was attractive), plus I got it on a nice deal for 800php/mo, thats like 15USD monthly for 24/mo.

I've used Samsung devices for over 7 years on several phones and tablets, and I have never experienced this so called planned obsolescence.
