S8 vs N8 update

My girlfriend's S8 just updated.
Android 7.0
Samsung exp 8.1

My Note is on 7.1.1
Samsung exp 8.5

Why is S8 getting Oreo before the Note when they aren't even on 7.1

They were released first. It always works that way.

which makes sense. But then why is the Note on a newer version already?

That's not Oreo. Oreo is 8.0. That is still Nougat.

I know. But currently my note is on a higher version of 7 and Samsung exp. Yet, s8 is getting 8 sooner.

It doesn't matter what version the Note is on. They finished the update for the S8 first. So it's getting updated first. The Note being on 7.1 has no bearing on whether it will get an update faster.
