S8 won't charge as it's saying tmits charging another device when it isnt?

My partner got the new s8 two weeks ago and a couple days ago it stopped charging. A notification comes up and says its charging another device through the usb cable, but it actually isnt charging anything at all. It will also only charge when the phone is completely dead. Is there anything we can do to fix it? We've tried to do factory reset and that hasn't worked. Someone said it's an update problem but there isn't a new update available.

Manufacture defect. Where did you it it from, a carrier store or online

Think that's what we will do. We've tried everything anyway and nothing is helping.

Carrier store is good they will get it taken care of. Only issue I've run into at least with tmobile is they typically have you hold onto the defect until the replacement comes in (son had an S6 that was defective earlier this year-end had new one shipped in, we held onto bad one until it arrived). In that case, at the time we didn't have extra backups so I got him a walmart phone then returned it for refund when his replacement arrived
