I don't mean to thread-jack, but on point to your post -- minus the latest feature, bell, whistle, etc. -- is there anything that the 9 and 10 do that you just can't do with the 8? I am about to jump ship and move over to Samsung (from BlackBerry Android), and I am probably going to have to get an 8 -- simply for the ability to use a PKB -- and I was a bit concerned.
Is this device going to be obsolete anytime soon? Someone buying one today won't have problems getting updates, support, etc.? Thanks in advance.
You're 100% right. There's technically nothing you can't do on the S8 that can be done on the 9 or 10. Sure, there's the multiple cameras, reverse wireless charging, etc., but you have to ask yourself if any of those things are deal breakers. The S8 still takes amazing photos, is speedy, and has that amazing Samsung display. That's why I'm keeping mine for another year.
That being said, if updates are a concern (and if that's how you define the longevity of a phone), then the end is definitely near for the S8. Although Samsung hasn't said anything, Android 9.0 will likely be the last major update the S8 gets (just based on historical experience, as the upgrade to 9.0 will be the phone's second major update I believe).
You'll just have to weigh the pros and cons, but from a capability perspective, I definitely don't think that the S8 lacks anything. It's still an amazing phone, and will end up being the phone I've held on to the longest (by a wide margin).

Might already be obsolete as it has yet to receive an update to android 9.0.
