S9+ 4k recording and storage questions

I'm thinking it could be to help with post processing. I edit some 4K videos occasionally on my desktop (3.2 ghz core i7, 12 gb ram, geforce gtx 1070 video card and it still takes a couple of hours to process long videos (took nearly 24 hours before I upgraded my antiquated workstation video card). I can't even imagine trying to do that on a phone.

Also the iPhone X has a dedicated ISP (hardware) for image processing, noise reduction, etc. I think maybe the Samsung’s limit has to do with a combo of heating and the inability to process the images (4k@60) fast enough so its buffer slowly fills and maybe even a inability to write the data fast enough to memory.

That wouldn't be too bad if you could keep recording but then I wonder why you couldn't just record continuously like the iPhone X...I'm thinking it's a heat issue.

DSLRs cut footage because the fat32 sd file format can only produce 4gb files or lower. The S9+ (as I can speak on the one that I own) CAN and does write to external sd cards. I have a 256 EVO so it is more than fast enough. Ill try with a slower card to see if it creates a limitation.

As for the 5 min limit, as a filmmaker and photographer, this is MORE than enough to shoot scenes to be edited for film or television or web. If youre looking for a longer option for say a wedding or a dissertation, use a lower resolution as it will increase continuous recording time... for instance FHD 1920x1080 doesnt give me a limitation.

My unlocked Samsung Galaxy S9 plus doesn't show me any options at all to go to 4k idk why because I been trying the past few days. I need someone help with this please and thank you!

Open camera, go to settings, rear video resolution
