S9+: does it have a good Macro mode for close up photography?

It does, just not super up close. the 2x lens helps a lot, but if you've used a Note 8, it's pretty much the same focal distance.

No sw “mode”can change the minimum focal distance of a lens. That’s baked into the lens construction itself. Most macro modes simply crop the image (or do some digital zoom) anyway. So best thing is to make the photo then crop the image to your liking.
There is an advantage to this also as a “real” macro lens (when you get closer and closer) has a very limited DOF.

Here are a few examples (not taken it’s a S9 obviously, but with a phone none the less). I have a couple of shots of the flowers in my hand to give a idea of the real size. The “macro” photos are simply crops from a larger FOV.

Wonder if the camera(s) will do well with close ups of coins or watches?

I'm coming from the S8+, so I don't have the benefit of the Note 8's camera's experience.

Used to love the macro feature on my old S3. Was disappointed that the macro was dropped on later S's

Got my S9+ 2 days ago and not had a good play with the camera yet.

Love macro shots.
