S9+ Quick charge question

Hi everyone

first off let me just say I am not a techy or have much knowledge at all in terms of technology so please excuse me if this is a simple or stupid question.

I have a samgsung s9+ and i have been having problems getting the quick charge to work on my car charger and portable battery, with the stock cable wall unit it obviously works great but I have a car charger and portable battery that I used for my previous s7 and the quick charge worked great with both those chargers, i simply replaced the micro usb cable with a usb c cable in hopes of using those two chargers for my s9 but not only does it not have quick charge it's extremely slow (we're talking 8 hours to get full charge)

so i did some searching and some people said it could be the aftermarket cables so I tried using the stock cable from the s9+ with the portable battery and it still is the same result. Once again the portable battery and car charger were both capable of quick charge with my s7 and have a 2.0 output (i believe), is that the reason i can't get quick charge on my s9? is 2.0 output not strong enough for the s9?

My S9+ also seems to be much more picky with what devices it will accept for "Fast Charging." The same QuickCharge 3.0 third party chargers and cables that I used with my S8 (and V30) will start out with a "Fast-Charging" message on the screen but will soon revert to "Cable Charging". This includes reputable brands such as Anker, Aukey, and Ravpower. I'm trying to find out something definitive as to why this is happening. Perhaps Samsung is playing it super safe with the S9? Their stock Adaptive Fast Chargers all work fine.
 
You need to make sure the chargers are either Samsung's Fast Charge compatible or Qualcomm's Quick Charge 2. You might have to change your chargers or contact the vendor to see if they have tested with an S9 (the charger itself for the S9 did change from previous versions).
 
I have the same problem. It's super annoying because I just bought a second car charger both are qc 3.0 and niether work fast charging tho it's pretty fast for no fast charge. They both worked for my s6 edge. My portable battery however still works. It's an akoolz power bank which is discontinued now. I have a qc 3.0 wall outlet(built into the wall) and it won't fast charge either. I tried using the usb c outlet on it and same thing. It displays fast charging for 5 seconds and then goes to cable charging. Super annoying. I'm wondering why the power bank still works and the rest don't. My stock charger and that power bank are the only ones that work. Cables don't make a difference. I tried safe mode and it's no difference.
 
I am an old engineer, and while I have no facts, my suspicions are that Samsung has tightened up the electronic control over charging these lithium batteries. Remember it was not long ago that they had a big recall about exploding notes. It may be that the chargers which worked on the 7s, just don't meet their current requirements to be safe.

Recently my Gear S3 displayed a message that it stopped charging because it got too hot. I called Samsung and they had me send it in immediately. They replaced the battery in it.

If so, you would think they would let their customers know which accessories are fully supported so we don't waste money.

Actually, it's the third party manufacturers that have to design their products to meet OEM specs. It's rare that an OEM (be it for phones or anything else) will officially claim support of a third party. For one, the OEM can't control what the third party manufacturer does, so there's the liability issue. Second, Samsung wants to sell Samsung accessories, not third party accessories.
 
well I guess the only upside to this is that we're all in this together it seems lol, let's keep sharing information with each other till we can all find a solution :) I may order a few chargers off amazon to see how they work, I'll share links if I have any success
 
I don't know about your S7, but the one my new S9 replaced didn't have Fast Charge. The car charger and battery might not be Fast Charge capable (reguardless of cable). I just bought a new battery that is capable and it has two outputs (actully 3 but I don't count the Lightning since I don't have Apple), one standard and one Fast Charge 3.0.
 
i am using my old galaxy S6 charger and it works fine in fast charge mode

obviously you will need to use your own usb 3 lead because this one has a usb 2 lead

Well, the Ravpower 6-port charger with one QuickCharge 3.0 slot is one example of a charger that does NOT work with fast charging for the S9+.

My USB tester showed the following: From 40-80%, the stock charger pulls 12W while the QuickCharge 3.0 port on the Ravpower pulls 6.87-7.4W. The non-QuickCharge port (iSmart) actually did better at 8-8.5W. Used the same OEM cable for all. The QuickCharge port actually triggers the "Fast Charging" message on the screen for a few seconds, but it quickly reverts to "Cable Charging."

Sucks for me because I had three of these (home, work, and in my backpack) and they worked great with my LG V30. Really would like someone to confirm a multi-port charger that fast charges the S9/S9+.
 
The QC/2/3 chargers in my possession number near a dozen or so - between 12VDC car models, multi-port chargers and single-port chargers. I've yet to own one that does not provider fast-charge to my QC-compatible batteries and phones.

Sadly, most of them are a year or more old and are listed as "no longer available" on Amazon - so I will post no links.

The brands, however, are Choetech, Anker and Aukey. If you are looking for models that work, I would start there.
