Same story, different year: Apple going after HTC again

Apple is acknowledging that the competition is every bit as good as, if not better, than any of their offerings. And they're right. They stopped innovating right around the first Iphone. Now, rather than create market trends, they follow and react to them. Stale OS; hardware that can't keep up with the times; they simply can't keep up. The only thing keeping them in the lead is their Marketing department.

I actually had a co-worker adamantly trying to convince me that his IPhone4S had 4G (LTE) because his was a 4g (4th generation) phone. Another one was trying to show off his "navigation" app by reading directions to me from his IPhone4S, EVEN WHILE GOOGLE NAV WAS ALREADY SPOUTING OFF DIRECTIONS ON MY PHONE! He couldn't fathom that what was happening on each phone was completely different. And when I told my phone to navigate us to our hotel, the other coworker in the car couldn't fathom I had anything other than an iphone with Siri. Folks, that's the power of marketing on the stupid masses, and that's all Apple does well any more, hence their sales numbers.

Well said.

Doesn't matter sales and market shares are the same as profits.

Market share and profits are two different things.

Apple is making money, hand over fist, while having less market share than all Android smartphones combined.

Every Android OEM besides Samsung is struggling to break even.

But who's making all of the money in the smartphone space?

Apple.

Tons of it.

Hardware. Software.

Call me when Android app developers don't need success on iOS to subsidize their Android work.

You do know android has more then the lions share of the smartphone market. Oh and my brother In law developed for mobile devices and he doesn't "need" success on apple market to make it elsewhere....not to mention the nickel and dimming they do to developers just to be able to put it on the market.

Look at my previous posts. I do know that Android has a larger market share than iOS.

But look all the other data.

Apple makes more profit on their smartphones than all of the Android OEMs. That is a fact right now.

Samsung is the only Android OEM making a significant profit. All others barely break even or are losing money. That is a fact right now.

Look at the state of apps and games. Almost always iOS first. Months if not years later, an Android version comes out.

I work in app and game development. The numbers I've seen with our own products along with the numbers I've seen from colleagues in the industry back up my assumptions - for app developers, generally it's much much easier to make money supporting iOS than Android.
