Samsumg s7 screen black except for notifications

[Android Central Question]

My phone screen randomly went black after I left it for a few minutes, the only thing showing on it is the top notification bar and the screen seems to be frozen since the battery doesn't appear to be depleting how do I fix this?

Welcome to Android Central! Are you saying that when new notifications come in, they show up in the status bar? Or does everything seem static?

Have you already tried rebooting? If the Power button doesn't seem to respond either, then hold Power and Vol Down for about 20 seconds to force a shutdown.
