I updated my phone to Android 15 yesterday & have a few questions I need answered.

1. Does anyone know what camera app Samsung installed on this phone?
I've tried asking Samsung, but cannot get an answer. I think it's the same I've been using since I bought the phone, but many of my settings have been changed & the app gives me no information about the camera.

2. I used to have the Side Button set to:
Double Press> Samsung Calendar
Long Press> Power Off Menu

But after the update, the Side Button automatically changed to:
Double Press> Samsung Calendar
Long Press> Digital Assistant (Google)

And now this damn Gemini message comes up:

I know I can change it back to the Power Off Menu, but how do I change it to the regular Google Assistant & NOT Gemini?

3. Using Google Messages, I've always been able to text pictures back & forth w/multiple family members in the same thread & have 1 going on right now, started last Friday. I tried to reply w/a few new pictures today (same as I always have) & now I get this message:
Messages App Error.jpg
I have NOT changed anything to the thread, but this message keeps coming up. Anyone know what could be the reason?

The Camera app should be Samsung's. Keep in mind that they may modify features and menus from time to time.

To change from Gemini back to Google Assistant, go to Settings>Google>Search, Assistant &Voice>Google Assistant>Digital Assistants from Google, and choose Google Assistant there. Be aware, though, that Google seems to be actively phasing Assistant out in favor of Gemini (much to the chagrin of many), so it's unclear how long this option will be available.

And what about the OP's #3 Google messages issue, B. Diddy? I wonder what's up with that?

Btw, those types of issues are exactly why I've stayed @ Android 14 / UI 6.0 !
And plan on staying @ 14 / 6.0 for as long as possible, where's there's none of that distracting AI crap always popping-up or interrupting or distracting or messing with things! 🙄
Have also blocked all the Microsoft CoPilot+ distracting crap in Outlook &c; just hope we can continue to block it... ad infinitum! 🙄

Oops, I missed that Messages issue. I would first make sure everyone in the thread is on RCS (including the OP). If they all are and this is still happening, then it might be worth starting a new group message thread and see if it works there.

Thank you for the reply.

I pressed the Camera app for about 2 seconds, tapped the 'i' (app's info page) that comes up & tapped Camera Settings. At the bottom of the list, I tapped About Camera & this comes up:

Camera App.jpg

When I tap Snap Privacy Policy, I am taken to this webpage:
I briefly scanned the policy, but does this mean the Camera app is owned by SnapChat?

The instructions you gave for the changing of the Google Assistant works just fine. I now have the original assistant ... for now :cautious:.

As for the Messages problem.
I know that before my phone update to Android 15, I had RCS turned off & I always used SMS without any problems. I don't know about the other participants.
But after reading your response, I checked & sure enough, my setting was changed to use RCS; because Google knows what's best for EVERYONE! Dammit.

So I changed back to my original settings & started a new chat, still received the error.
Changed settings to RCS, started new chat, tried adding pictures, still received the error.
So I tried another way. I selected pictures, tapped the Share icon, selected (Google) Messages, selected recipients & sent message. THAT approach has worked.
The whole SMS, MMS, RCS settings confuse me, as do the symbols in my messages.

I see that Camera info screen as well on my Galaxy Tab S9 FE+, but without the Snap Privacy Policy. The Version number is exactly the same.

This is what came up when I searched the issue:

"Snapchat's privacy policy is showing up in your Samsung Camera app likely due to integrated features between Samsung devices and Snapchat.
Samsung has collaborated with Snapchat to include features like "Fun Mode" within its camera app, which utilizes Snapchat's AR Lenses and computational photography capabilities. When you access these Snapchat-powered features within the Samsung Camera app, it's necessary to adhere to Snapchat's terms and privacy policies because you're interacting with their services.
Specifically, this integration requires access to device features like your camera and photos to function properly. Snapchat's privacy policy outlines how they collect and use data when you engage with these integrated features, even when using the Samsung Camera app itself.
To understand why this is happening:
  • Integrated Features: Samsung has partnered with Snapchat to bring features like "Fun Mode" directly into their camera app.
  • Access Permissions: Using these features means that Snapchat needs access to your device's camera and photos, and possibly other information depending on the feature's requirements.
  • Adherence to Policies: When using these integrated features, you are subject to Snapchat's policies, which govern how they collect and use data from your interactions with their services.
By understanding that certain features within the Samsung Camera app are powered by Snapchat, you can see why you might encounter Snapchat's privacy policy. "

The Google Messages issue is a bit puzzling -- try clearing the app cache in Settings>Apps and then Force Stop it, then try again.
