Samsung admits Note incompatible with Android Auto

For what it's worth.

I've been struggling to get a Note 4 on O2 in the UK, running Android version 6.0.1, on a 2016 model Skoda Superb. I enabled USB debugging and on the third cable I tried Android Auto started working, all the steering wheel controls okay and voice control okay. I haven't tried turning off the debugging option but it looks like the usb cable is the root cause of all our problems.

I just wanted to say I have a Verizon Note 4 (Android 6.0.1 and June 1, 2016 security patch) connected to a 2017 Mercedes E300 and AA runs well. The car's hard buttons even re-map to their AA equivalents (eg: NAVI button brings up Google Maps instead of the factory GPS), and I have no audio issues that were previously mentioned.

However....the initial setup wasn't seamless. I had to change the 'USB configuration' setting in [Settings/Developer options] to MTP. And had to reconnect numerous times, each of which prompted different permissions on both the Note 4 and the car display. It must've taken about four or five attempts to complete this process. With the setup out of the way, AA now automatically starts upon connecting the usb cable.

Finally, specific to the E300, it has a total of four input methods (3 touchpads and 1 wheel controller) but only the wheel controller and the adjacent touchpad can control AA. I imagine that's up to Mercedes to fix, but overall, AA works really well in this car.

I can say that the information they gave you is not entirely accurate. I have a Verizon Galaxy Note 4 and I was able to use AA just fine from around May of 2015 all the way through February of 2016. First was in my old car with a Pioneer NEX4100, and second was in my 2016 VW GTI with the Fender audio system from December 2015 until February 2016. During the entire time everything was good, I was on Android 5.0 and had to be on that version since a work app I use wouldn't work on 5.1.1. After February, we got the OK to update to 5.1.1. Immediately after the 5.1.1 update I no longer get any audio through Android Auto. No navigation, music, text, or even the "boing" noise when you press the mic button on screen. Something in 5.1.1 broke it, and I am patiently waiting and hoping that we will get 6.0 on the Note 4 and it will all start working again. In the mean time, I am using a 2 phone solution where I took my Galaxy s3 and put cyanogenmod on it to run AA, then have it connect through wifi to my Note 4 hotspot. Everything is god now except for the phone call situation, but i rarely take calls while diving anyhow, so it isn't the end of the world. If android 6.0 doesn't fix it though, I will be a bit more upset.

Is you galaxy S3 working, via Android Auto, with your car multimedia?
Can you see the screen of Android Auto in your car multimedia?
If yes, what's is the ROM that you are using in your galaxy S3?
Tks.
