Samsung/Android equivalent to iMessage?

Will there ever be an integrated messaging app for the Samsung Android system that uses the same basis as iMessage?

Like the Apple iPhone has one inbuilt messaging app that automatically switches between sending an sms to non-Apple products and then iMessage to Apple devices? I know the Samsung has Hangouts and ChatOn but they are separate apps from the standard messaging one (not the mention that no one really uses them from my experience).

Will they ever get one that does the same thing but in one inbuilt app? Has anyone heard any news or rumours about this feature?

I doubt they would.

A better solution however, would be to use hangouts as the default SMS client rather than Samsung's one.
