Samsung backup on Verizon?

This may have been talked about here already, but does anyone know how to use Samsung backup on Verizon? They gimped it (what else is new) but I know it's still there and there's supposedly a way to access it via a shortcut but I can't quite get it to work. I get into the app via a shortcut from the home screen in Nova, but when I click start or next or whatever it says at the bottom right, it doesn't do anything. If anyone can assist I'll be extremely grateful, because I need to factory reset to try and figure out why the heck my music keeps duplicating on this phone, and the backup will make my life a lot easier during a restore. From what I understand, you can't make it work. You can pull it up, but it doesn't work correctly. You can still do a backup through smart switch though. I would recommend using that.

Does anyone know of the absolute best way to completely back everything up and have it backup in a way that allows you to pick and choose what you want to restore later on? What's the best app/s or is dragging and dropping everything onto the computer a better way? I probably won't be restoring app data, as I like to start fresh, so that's not terribly important.
