Hello!

What downsides - if any - are there to encrypting backup data and synced data to Samsung Cloud?

Thanks people 🙂

Only downside I can think of

A recovery code is a 28-character code that you can use to recover encrypted data in case all your devices are not available due to being lost, stolen, or damaged.

A recovery code cannot be viewed again after being generated, and Samsung does not store recovery codes. When the recovery code is generated, it must be recorded and stored in a secure space.

If both the device that provides the Enhanced data protection feature and the recovery code are lost, there is no way to access the encrypted data.

Thanks for the heads up.

So is the recovery code generated before or after the backup? I would have thought after but I have no idea if you could possibly help with that?

Also, should you screw up with the recovery code but you haven't lost your device I understand that you won't be able to restore your encrypted backup, but you could then do another backup?

Sorry if these seem obviously stupid questions but I'm elderly with a number of health issues and I'm not in a good space this evening to fully figure things out.

I've not enabled it but yes it has me thinking the same thing you can do another backup for a code on the latest. I will test it sometime in the next few days just to see if in action

I was able to give it a test run this morning obviously I changed it after these photos LOL also it gives you an option at the end to enable your phone PIN for a future restore alongside the generated code
