Samsung Device Care sharing data with China?

Re: Samsung device care phoning home to china

I’m not being ignorant here.

People ‘opting in’ to Facebook data sharing? When that option is buried deep in settings, the complete terms hidden within hundreds of lines of the privacy policy’ etc, it might as well not be a choice. Facebook was also sharing their users data with other companies without their consent, so claiming that user have complete control over their Facebook data and how it is used is laughable.

Details here: https://www.wired.com/story/facebooks-sloppy-data-sharing-deals-might-be-criminal/

It is a US company accountable to US laws, but it has also repeatedly betrayed its users, federal and public trust despite being slapped with hundreds of millions in fines, because it can afford to. Until much stronger action is taken and Facebook is punished to the extent that it won’t repeat those actions, it might as well be unaccountable.

All I’m saying is, just because it’s a Chinese company doesn't mean it’s bad, which is an assumption many here seem to be making. As I’ve said with regards to Huawei, you need evidence to prove it’s bad. Innocent until proven guilty is a principle of Western justice systems. And until you have evidence of crime, the suspect is innocent (also applies to Huawei).
Man...there is certainly a delayed response to some threads around here.

Since this discussion first began...Samsung has rebuilt the app. First the server calls to 360 were taken down almost immediately. Now their branding has been removed from the app Device Care app itself, and the app no longer scans your storage and "cleans" your files.

I suppose you can chalk all this up as paranoia, xenophobia, whatever you like. The point is the issue was addressed and corrected by Samsung. That was a wise decision by Samsung to be sure, given the optics of the situation. But I don't think simply sweeping this under the rug confirms there was never anything nefarious going on. Samsung has never made an official statement about it - either in defense of their software partner, or to acknowledge that any such transgression took place. So let's not be naive about it either.

Yeah lol, haven’t been active recently.I’m not being naive here either. I also agree with Samsung’s decision from a business point of view, but I still think that overall, people were overreacting a little. But that’s just my opinion. The whole thing’s done...nothing left to talk about.

With Samsung (and any other big corporation) there's always something to talk about lol.
