Samsung Device Care sharing data with China?

Re: Samsung device care phoning home to china

i highly doubt samsungs gonna let that third party company to have our data... we are safe guys... lol

I don't share your confidence -- Samsung already showed poor judgment by letting Cheetah Mobile "power" its device care app prior to this. It'd be ideal if Samsung could just let users get rid of this app, but as mentioned in the article, it's integrated pretty deeply in the system.

Re: Samsung device care phoning home to china

I have package Disabler should I disable device care or will that still send back ?

Re: Samsung device care phoning home to china

mine says something different...it says powered by coconut with an apple symbol in front of it

Re: Samsung device care phoning home to china

You can disable it or revoke permissions in settings - apps - device care

Re: Samsung device care phoning home to china

Mine says by McAfee but haven't activated it.

Re: Samsung device care phoning home to china

I don't see option to revoke permissions .. at least won't let me check off ... Disabled for now ...

Yeah I see now it won't let you check the deny permission option.
Did you use BK Disabler to disable it?
I just did as described in the link to stop it connecting/sending reports to the 360 server

I have the previously paid app PD MDM it's not in playstore.. it's the old package disabler for Samsung

Re: Samsung device care phoning home to china

Somewhat reassuring, but it would be even moreso if they just got rid of it completely. You'd think Samsung could do this kind of thing in-house, considering how massive they are.

Re: Samsung device care phoning home to china

I agree. Not sure why they dont have there own optimization software.

Re: Samsung device care phoning home to china

Thanks for more info... I'm going to keep it disabled .. and I blocked using the DNS method ... I don't need to see battery stats no more

Re: Samsung device care phoning home to china

Seems reassuring...but I have been tracking the Device care app since this story broke using Netguard and the two logged addresses that were talking to the 360 servers are no longer there.

I'm happy to see that...but anyone who isn't wondering why they needed to be there in the first place is being seriously delusional.

Kudos to the Reddit member that exposed this and forced Samsung's hand. We are all better off as a result!

I won't be considering a Samsung phone again until they do (get rid of it that is) ;-)
