Hello Friends,
My phone is sometimes extremely extremely sluggish to the point that I wanna throw it out the windows. The Advanced Task Manager shows almost no apps running to kill. There are several services that are running but I don't know of any other way other to reboot the phone to kill them and then after sometime the phone becomes sluggish again. Any solutions?

Same problem here. When the GB update came out, the phone was fast and snappy for a long time, but has gradually gotten slower and more lag. Based on checking what apps/processes are running when it's slow, I've found that more and more apps are running in the background than did after the GB update.

Looks like the apps have caught up with the GB update and now run even when you don't want or use them.

It gripes me so much that I want to throw the phone at a Google or Verizion CEO when I see apps that I've never used or wanted running on the phone.

Give me back my Motorola Flip Phone! It had great signal strength and reception!

It bothers me too, for what we spent on this phone we should be able to prevent bloatware without having to root and install ROMs. My home computer is an iMac, so I can't unbloat mine, but maybe you guys want to root and ROM, there are people on the forum who will screen share and help you do it.

Why not? There are instructions around here to root with a mac

Root your Charge. Then install either Tweakstock (cleaned up stock rom, black & blue theme, very snappy) or Eclipse (ICS style rom, very fast, great custom blue theme). I have used both roms & currently have Eclipse on my Charge. It is awesome.

The Droid Charge is a piece of crap on Froyo, it was much faster on OTA GB, did you update your phone to GB? Anyway, I'd still root and use a custom ROM. Don't be afraid, as long as you can follow instructions. I have not used Eclipse so I can't comment, but I am rocking Tweakstock for the past month and a half and it is AMAZING! I too wanted to throw my piece of crap Charge out the window last June, but now my phone is no longer sluggish.

Verizon and Samsung are terrible programmers, these custom ROMers are 17,000 times better.

non rooted semi solution: I am not sure if you want to go this route but some launchers have a speed boost built in that helps with opening and transition speeds. I recommend launcher pro

I have this problem too on my Charge, along with occasional crashes where the phone won't come back on. I've had to pull the battery once. However I noticed the slowdown after I installed Go Launcher EX. I've been thinking that's where my problem is because the phone didnt start bogging down until I installed that. I've been willing to live with the issues because I'm afraid removing it will really crash the phone.

Is anyone else who's having the slow down issue, running a non-stock launcher?

If you want to see if it is the launcher(which I highly doubt, I am using golauncher), just go to settings-applications- manage application-scroll down to go launcher- click clear defaults. When you click your home button, you can now choose the stock TW launcher, or any other you have downloaded.
Unless you are running a debloated rom, you will find it rather sluggish with all the crapware Verizon installed.

I've had my Charge for 6 months. Here's what I've learned regarding keeping it running smoothly. Keep the number of home pages to a minimum 3 or 4. Move apps to SD where possible, keeping in mind that some apps will not run properly from the card. This especially true regarding widgets. The quantity of number of apps installed on the phone also affects performance, keep installed apps to a minimum, leave the rest on the cloud. Live wallpaper will slow it down.

True, none of these should matter, but they do. Keep your Charge "slim and trim" and it will run fine. As time goes by it will get "fat" again. Just clean it up.

The Charge is a great multimedia machine, the Super Amoled display is alone worth the cost but you must manage it properly.

Hope this helps.

I always run 7 screens without issue but otherwise I agree with the post above me.

I never have lag but I guess it is just me. I get bored easily so I switch roms alot which involves a complete wipe so maybe that is my advantage

I run Go Launcher EX and it runs stable and fast. Much faster than crap TouchWiz, I don't think your Go Launcher is slowing you down, this is assuming you're running a decent custom ROM. If you're running Verizon software, that is your problem. Fix it and your sluggishness will stop.

As for the quantity of stuff on phone slowing it down, I don't experience that at all. I have around 180 apps installed and my phone is not sluggish, I have 17 GB of stuff being used on my micro SD card, movies, music, etc. Nope, not sluggish.

If you're running Verizon software and claiming sluggish, then keep in mind it doesn't happen to people who run superior software on their phones. Check out Tweakstock, you'll see. :)

Like a computer a reboot helps a great deal. I've made it a practice to reboot the Charge every morning or whenever it begins running sluggish. Problem solved for me. Running the downloadable Gingerbread version which was posted on this forum a few months back.

I figured out what was making my phone slow. It is when my phone connects with the
'GOgroove FlexSMART X2 In-Car Bluetooth Advanced FM Transmitter '
in my car. It is not slow when it connects to my motorola headset though. I was wondering as to if there are any tweaks that I can do to ease this problem?
