I have a Galaxy S21 and I have no Samsung email accounts but I often have a notification which shows "syncing email". Why do I get this notification. It appears to be until I swipe it away.

Yes you can turn off sync for emails but OP has to first go to settings>notifications>advanced menu>toggle on notifications category
Then long press the Samsung email app>tap info>notifications>at the bottom notifications category then the menus will show up but if you don't turn notifications category on , it's off by default you won't see notifications category

By the way @BerryBubbles did have a screenshot of this but don't know why she deleted.

Check all of your notification categories.

In my Samsung Email app, there are 2 sections, one for each email account I have in the app. And a third, called "General". Turn that one off if you have it. That gets rid of the app only related notifications. But I still get my email account notifications when I get new email with exchange push syncing, and nothing else is turned off. I don't ever see an "email syncing" notification.
Here's a screenshot of what you're saying for the OP to see.

Ignore the timer. I'm cooking dinner.

Yes. What you and Mustang wrote should be it.

On mine, under "General", I turned the first "Allow Notifications" off and all the other options below it went away.

All I get are notifications from each of my two email accounts. That's it. I don't need to know about anything else from the email app.

Thanks, I think it worked, but Samsung makes it more difficult than necessary
Oh, don't worry... Samsung isn't the only one that adds some extra notifications now.

Wait until you find the ones that let you know they are "running in the background". Well, yeah, they have to so they can receive the emails as they come in.

This is odd to me because I wouldn't expect email to work like this. I know SMS works like this. This is why you are not able to disable the default SMS client. For SMS whatever app you're using appears to work like a viewer more than the actual app doing all of the heavy lifting. Everything still goes through the default even if you don't use it and it sounds like email may work this way to some extent as well if you're not able to disable it and still send and receive email.

This notification must be part of some update that happened in the not so distant past because I don't remember having it until, at most, a few months ago. What screwed me was swiping it away closed the app in some way that caused it to stop syncing my accounts. I found this out when I went to retrieve an activation code and couldn't figure out why it wasn't coming through. So now I just leave it. To be honest I don't even go to my notifications that often to be annoyed by it.

She's not sure either. ;)

Actually, after I reread the OP's original post & saw "I have no Samsung email accounts", I thought I might not be understanding the problem correctly. So I deleted it.

Mustang, you're really on top of things, (y). I thought I had deleted it before anyone would have noticed!!🤣

Your blazing fast my friend!!

Hahaha, thanks 👍
I must of caught it while looking at it in the moment, but you had it right.
