So I an torn between these three phones.

What really matters to me is:

Battery life when using
Standby battery life
Audio quality when wired
Smoothness of skin (lag issues?)

I know people here will be mainly partisan to the LG 7 but I really would like to learn of any objective opinions relating to experiences had with at least two of these phones. Appreciate any insights on this thanks!

Based on your list the V30 would actually be the best candidate here. The battery life smokes the G7 by a mile and handily outperforms the S9+ as well. Smoothness and lag I guess would be a tie between the three although I'm not sure if you would get hit with the infamous Samsung slow down after time. Audio quality when wired? How do you like the QuadDAC? I absolutely love it and the V30 will let you listen the longest and also it's the cheapest of the bunch at the moment.

Thanks for your quick reply, I have heard about the battery life issues of the G7 compared to the V30, respectfully have you owned both phones or heard the anecdotal views on this issue as I have?

Yeah battery life is a big one for me. I'm still rocking the HTC 10 and that has great battery life even though it's two years old. With light/medium ussge (YouTube, Reddit app, Tapatalk and webpages with lots of JavaScript) I still get about 3.5 hours usage.

I will have to search YouTube now for battery life comparison videos.

I haven't owned either phone but I've seen numerous tests and reviews that show the V30 beating just about all of last year's flagships and still most this year including the Note 9 and the falloff of phones using the SD845 which the G7 uses. The SD835 was a really efficient chip. I really like GSM Arena's battery break downs and if you look on their battery life scale, the V30 is not too far from the top. It was the one champion flagship that actually beat out the competition head to head and I really admired it for that. One of the top reasons I'm still considering it a year later myself.

Nice thank you I will have a look at the gsm, I have to admit I feel like part of me thinks newer is better with regard to the cpu chip but if testing feom reputable companies confirm users opinions then I'll have to consider the V30. It seems all the phones have pros and cons....the V30 apparently has a well reported issue of light bleed from the screen, some get it and some don't.... However I have subtle water damage on the screen of my HTC 10 and I don't notice it 9 times out of 10 so that might not matter to me.

Yeah I think the later batches of V30 displays faired better than the early ones. Yeah it's just the SD845 which on every device which was upgraded from last year posted worse battery life results. That's why I'm super curious to see if Google can be the first to reverse this trend. The main detractors of the V30 for me was a well performing V20 for one, the speaker quality and the fact that LG still didn't fix the front facing camera although now with the Google camera mod, you can get very serviceable selfies and portrait mode shots.

I prefer much of what LG offers, it’s just that UI is horrible and the Bluetooth audio sync does not work properly either

User interface is a personal thing. I find it much better than. Samsung, and though I had to get used to doing things differently then when I had HTC 10, I now can't imagine doing another way. I think it is great.

As for Bluetooth audiosync, don't find that to be a big deal, again, personal preference. Admittedly would be better I guess if it changed volume on both at same time, but you usually have both near when you het started, so very easy to set one very loud and simply adjust one that will be on your body as needed.

LOL. Can't believe what a fanboy I have become over this phone.

Seriously though, really is based on personal preference. If your not married to Samsung, think this is really a great phone, especially for the price. Got mine for only 450 over 24 months at Best buy on Verizon first week of release. Have been very pleased since.

Something else that may get overlooked is the refresh rate of the G7s LCD is likely to be kinder on your eyes. Is also the only LCD I know that offers an always on display.

At it's current price the G7 is a steal really.

Well I went ahead and got the V30 myself and it is every bit of amazing. The size is beautiful. The screen is gorgeous. Battery life is as good as tests and users reported. I'll be keeping this one for a while.

I just order a V35 on Project Fi. I'm upgrading from an LG G4 which I have had for nearly three and a half years and liked a lot. I thought I was going to upgrade to a Pixel 3 ($799). Affording it wasn't a problem but it seemed like throwing money away. The hardware certainly doesn't justify the cost. The main selling point for me the stock software and software updates. I went into a Verizon store yesterday to get a hands on feel. I couldn't see using the Pixel 3; it's smaller than my G4 and doesn't fit well in my hand. The 3XL at $899 and the ugly notch. Funny. V35 on Fi was $699 plus $150 Fi credit comes out to $550.

OP here, in the end I went and ordered the...The V30!

Usually I like to get the latest and greatest like the Samsung Galaxy S9+ and LG G7, but I when I read a review that wondered if the Pixel 3 would finally break the mould and finally be the first phone with 845 chipset to solve the issue of unremarkable battery performance I decided that the V30 would do for me. The one constant praise I have heard is that the V30 has noticeably great battery life even compared to some of the 845 generation phones of 2018.

I think since 2016 most phones are capable of being good enough for more than the usual 2 years. At the moment I am using my 2016 HTC 10 phone and to be honest it still is an amazing performing phone (and battery permitting) probably could last till 2020. I know app sizes are getting bigger which will eventually put a strain on mobiles with 4gb of ram but for at least a year or two we should be fine.

My 2016 HTC 10 is still fast, and doesn't get bogged down by 2018 apps. Infact I will still be using it as my 2nd device when I am at home. I really only felt inclined to update to a new device because of corrosion / shorting issues in the htc 10 headphone jack (that I still might be able to fix with cleaning techniques).

I know the G7 and Samsung Galaxy S9+ are probably a better phones than the V30 in many areas but for the reasons avove and for the overwhelming positive reviews I am looking forward to getting my hands on the V30 when it is delivered. I'm sure it will be an exciting upgrade on my trusty HTC 10. Thanks for everyone's input which really helped me make my decision!

Wow great decision. You will really love the battery life. The camera is really nice as well with a few tweaks in manual and even in auto but just not as reliable as others in auto. I downloaded the Google camera mode to help out with selfies, portrait mode, and tricky HDR scenes. You really get Pixel-esque processing with it installed too. A few examples. No edits.

Had mine for 3 weeks now, what a phone! Battery is amazing, no more power bank.... I'm a light user, just Reddit, Tapatalk and occasional YouTube and chrome and headphone music...

The music is amazing I thought the HTC 10 was pretty good, and it is, but this is night and day better and that is without the quad DAC setting on.

Nice pictures by the way!! Haven't even tried the camera yet but thanks for the Google cam tip... Do you have a link for V30?

Kindly provide me the link to use this app as I wish to try it on G7.
