I also have a Galaxy S5 and my screen also have a hairline crack. From left to right.... The phone is less than one month old. And as soon as I took it out of it´s package I applied a screen protector. (MFX tempered screen protector and an armordillo protective case. I have never dropped the phone.)

You can Crack a screen other then dropping the phone..... Not dropping the phone doesn't mean you didn't cause indirectly or not.
Check back nearly 4 months later and this thread is a lot like I left it. A lot of new under 10 post users posting claims without pictures or anything to follow up on. The fact that the "Lawsuit" hasn't gained any ground makes me think there isn't much ground to dig from.
Again I just find it very strange and it makes me think this is just some thread to try and sway Galaxy buyers.

It is Imo..... Screens don't just break for no reason and I very much doubt it is a "defect" I've had my note 3 since March with no problems plus millions more. If this was a widespread issue there would of been an article about it here, technobuffalo or elsewhere or maybe already a lawsuit
Welp, I finally sent my phone in today to Samsung.
About 3 months ago I had this cracked screen incident - A lot of you are claiming it isn't real, but it definitely happened to me. Sitting in a movie theater, I felt my phone get very warm in my pocket. Went home and as I was getting ready for bed, noticed the crack. No drops, no hits, nothing physical done to the phone.
Any ways, I dealt with it for 3 months and then this past weekend while I was bowling I felt the phone get warm again. I do use a 3rd party battery (Anker 6400) and when I went to turn on the phone it just wouldn't. Couldn't get it to boot in any recovery mode... so off to Samsung it was to see if they can resurrect it under warranty. Not sure they will do anything about the glass, but thought I would share my story here.

Then there is probably the cause..... You should of turned off the phone once you felt it getting hot just sitting in your pocket
To each his own, I disagree completely with that statement. The phone has gotten hot in the past for me while playing games and never had any issue. Why should I have to shut my phone off because it starts getting warm and in the past it would get warm but wouldn't stop working?
Granted they can claim the third party battery killed it, but I have a feeling they will see the cracked glass and write it off as physical damage.
I enjoyed the device but we will see what happens with this. Not sure I want to fork over another $200 to have it fixed.

Because science says heat and glass doesn't mix.... I wouldn't wait till the software flags to be hit for it to turn off my phone and do it myself
In my opinion, the glass wasn't ready for prime time if these things happened. I work in electronic sales and have sold LCD panels to customers. We have had issues where a customer receives these hairline glass fractures after they have been through shipping to FL.
It ultimately came down to poor glass manufacturing and the increased temperature of FL caused the hairlines to occur.
Wish i would have turned off my phone, but I can't go back in time. All I can do now is hope Samsung does right by me or they will lose a customer. Even if they don't fix the display, my hope is they are able to turn it on and not charge a fee for that aspect. I can deal with a working phone with a hairline crack, I cant deal with a phone that won't turn on.

I had my note 3 since March and no hairline cracks.... As I have said before if this really a "defect" it would of been reported here on Android central, technobuffalo, CNET or etc
Well good luck and hope it doesn't happen to you. I bought it on release day and just happened 2-3 months or so ago ( whenever Xmen was released as that was the movie it happened in)
I have had a s2 s3 and s4 and never had this problem I expect has this this sole purpose is to bash Samsung and the don't even have Samsung phones....
Nah I dont think so. I loved my Note3 and all my friends can attest. I had it set up with the works using Nova, Tasker, Utter and never had an issue with the phone. Even the screen crack i dealt with since I used it for everything and its my daily driver for work.
There must be an underlying reason because quite a few posts come up when searching google. Maybe it is rare and only happens under certain circumstances, but I'm not here to bash Samsung as I want my Note 3 back in working condition... I cant stand using this iphone4 i had to borrow in the mean time.

I've had smartphones from just about every big oem and have had ZERO issues with this type of problem.. Not calling anyone a liar... But it's never happened here

Once again bashing Samsung has become as popular as bashing apple and iPhone.....Probably the newbies who post and forget about are those people who don't have a Samsung phone and felt the "need" to chime in their "opinions" to bash Samsung.....
Just letting you guys know I did ship my phone to Samsung, but have not heard back yet. It has been 2 weeks and they have not had a chance to even look at the phone.

Well they are trying to charge me $200 because the LCD is cracked. I will be calling again on Monday to talk to a technician. I do not care if my LCD is replaced, but I want to know why my phone won't turn on. It does not have to do with the hairline crack, because the phone worked for numerous months with it just fine.
I would ask about a warranty with that. Then maybe selling when the Note 4 comes out.
Looks like this will never be resolved now, and genuine victims will have to pay up.

Welp, looks like my efforts were for nothing. Even after talking to 3 people and explaining that I did not cause the crack in the display and the reason I sent it in was because my phone was not starting, not for them to fix the LCD. They still said it was the LCD that was malfunctioning and I need to fork over $200. If you recall from my earlier posts, the phone worked FINE for 4 months with the hairline crack, then just turned off one day in my pocket and I couldn't get it back on.
So now they are blaming the crack in the display as the reason the phone will not turn on... where I do not think that is the case, because it would vibrate every 10 seconds and appeared to me as a power up issue... not a display issue.
Oh well, looks like my only solution is to pay the $200 and hope I can sell the thing for $300 when I get it back.
