Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016) battery draining fast.

Hi - hope someone can help!

I have a Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016) that's been causing me some problems. For the past while, the battery has been draining really fast. When the battery gets to around 35% it immediately drops to 15% and then in the next couple seconds, the phone just switches off. The battery is two years old, so I figured the battery needed to be replaced. I did this.

I got a replacement battery today and thought all was going well (although I did suspect that the battery was draining a little faster than a new battery should - on turning on the phone at 100% it immediately dropped to 99% before I had used the phone at all). Still, I thought this would fix my problem. No. The phone drained to 34% and when I looked again (couple seconds later) it had fallen to 16% - a few minutes later the battery was completely dead.

Now, it could be that I have two faulty batteries (unlikely - the replacement battery I bought is new and an official Samsung battery) - so can anybody help me out and offer ideas/solutions?

My guess is that an app I've installed is draining the battery somehow - but none of my apps seem to be using more battery power than usual. I can't figure it out!

Maybe time for a new phone, I guess - but if there's a fix here, I'd like to know it.

Just to update: Phone again shut off at 34% today. I charged it back up to 8% and at 8% it has lasted for around 2 hours (battery is currently at 4% after 2 hours) Cannot figure out why it keeps shutting off at 34%.

Welcome to Android Central! Charge up to 100%, then let it drain to 20-30% with normal usage (or until it does what you've been describing), without charging in between. Then show us:


1. The main Settings>Battery screen.
2. The fullscreen battery graph screen (which shows Awake time and Cell Signal Strength).
3. The Screen category (to see total Screen On time).
4. The Cell Standby category, if present (to see Time Without Signal).

You might have to install a 3rd party battery monitor, like GSam Battery Monitor, to get the Cell Signal Strength graph.
