Samsung Galaxy J5 - How to connect to non-smart TV via HDMI

Good afternoon all.
I have a Samsung Galaxy J5 (SM-J530F) that I want to connect to a non-smart HDTV via HDMI. I already had an MHL 2.0 adapter handy, so I tried that but with no luck.
Googling around, it seems that the J5 doesn't support MHL.
I have been in touch with Samsung support and they initially told me to use screencasting/miracast until I pointed them to the original post where I'd said it was a non-smart TV (and MHL 2.0 didn't work either). So they then suggested I use an MHL cable, even though I'd told them that I'd already tried that and it didn't work.
Finally they suggested using a usb to HDMI that supports OTG - as the phone is OTG compliant.
I have been searching around trying to see if such a thing exists - as virtually everything that I've seen that has a micro USB and HDMI requires MHL.

Has anyone else managed to achieve this on any OTG compliant micro usb ported phone? I now have a micro usb to usb (OTG), so all I need is either a micro-usb-to-hdmi or usb-to-hdmi OTG. Is there such a cable/adapter?

Welcome to Android Central! Your best bet is probably Chromecast. If you don't have access to a wi-fi network, then try something like Microsoft's Wireless Display Adapter, which essentially adds Miracast support to your TV without requiring a wi-fi network: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...-display-adapter-2%2Fp3q-00001&token=gkNC82lV

I don't believe there's an OTG to HDMI cable that would work. For microUSB-A, I think the two standards are MHL and SlimPort.

Thanks for the reply- appreciated.
Oddly, I was only in Currys yesterday evening looking at external 'smart' devices like Chromecast as they didn't have any OTG USB-to-HDMI cables/adapters in the store. I was hoping to get a cheap cable as really it was only to view photos, but it seems that a Chromecast or Miracast compatible device is the only way.

Thanks again.
