Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) Bluetooth problems

Re: Samsung galaxy note 10.1 (2014) Bluetooth problems

You won't find a bt keyboard any cooler :D So, I guess that means you have to buy it <g> It's been called a "luxury" keyboard by some reviewers. I bought mine for $75 or 79 (new). BB matched an on line price.

No I understand trust me lol I'm just saying its crazy how much we spend even after buying the tablet itself :-$

Re: Samsung galaxy note 10.1 (2014) Bluetooth problems

Funny thing is I bought this keyboard Jan 2013 as I anticipated one of the hottest tablets showcased at CES 2013. It was a Visio 10" with a Tegra 4 processor and incredible resolution. That tab never made it out of vaporware status :o Then I just kinda lost interest since it was against my religion to own any device with the word Apple in it ;) But I used the keyboard from time to time with my smartphone but it mostly just sat unused but by golly I had a "luxury" BT mini keyboard <lol> Still don't use it that often with the GN/2014. I usually use the s-pen to write.
Speaking of the latest cool stuff (and I may be behind) do you use a wifi usb flash drive? My computing needs and interests aren't what they used to be when I was a "techy nerd that needed
all the latest cool stuff" <g> but it's nice to have and an amazing little device. Here is the YouTube vid that convinced me to buy it.

Re: Samsung galaxy note 10.1 (2014) Bluetooth problems

I have a Belkin keyboard used on a Note 2014 running Android 4.3 connected via blue tooth and it works fine. I also use a Logitech blue tooth headset and an Avantree earphone/mic. In the car is an ancient Parrot. Everything works fine. For the keyboard don't forget to go to settings and select External Keyboard in place of the Samsung - it still works if you don't but then it can be a bit lumpy!

Regarding setting the Samsung Galaxy 2014 to pair with the external keyboard: I don't see the option to choose External keyboard on my Samsung Galaxy.
Can you be more specific about where I should find it? It doesn't appear to be under "language and input"> Keyboards and input methods

Slide the notification bar down to view the option.

I don't see it either. Just did a search for the word "external" in the pdf manual and no mention of an external keyboard setting.

When the Bluetooth keyboard connects, do you get any prompts? There are no prompts to choose a specific Bluetooth keyboard except in your Bluetooth settings. I use Null Input Method to keep the onscreen keyboard from being displayed.

I get no prompts of any kind when I turn on the K810. It just instantly connects. If the OB keypad is on at the time, it disappears when the external board connects.

Skeeter, sounds like it would be worth it to you to do what pcbtmr did.

I was really hoping to avoid the hassle of sending it in... figured maybe I'd wait for the next update and see if it fixes the BT issue. <sigh>

Since I'd also really like to root, so that I can switch from the hardware buttons to virtual on-screen buttons, I'll have to send this in for repair prior to rooting. Otherwise, warranty is void. I guess I might as well just give them a call and start hassling their support reps now. It sounds like it can take a few calls before they agree to service the device.

you can do the hardware to software buttons without root. The turning off of hardware buttons can be done without any app.... It's included in Samsungs accessibility settings. Under recognition, interaction control.... turn this setting on, and it will let you turn off the hardware buttons. Then you need an app to get the software buttons. I know someone on this forum mentioned which app doesn't require root. In fact, I'm pretty sure they started a thread on this subject.... I'm sure, it wouldn't take to much searching to find it, or someone who uses it might pipe up with the name....
I know this isn't helpful concerning your repair issues, but I thought you might like to know you don't need root for what you (most? ) want root for.

Thanks, but unless I missed something, these accessibility settings seem to be set per application. I didn't see an option to simply disable the hardware buttons by default. I believe the screen even has a message stating that buttons cannot be disabled in the launcher screen. Maybe I'll take another look... I may have missed a setting.

I have a galaxy tab pro 10.1. I've successfully connected my bluetooth jambox and bluetooth keyboard but neither actually work. Anyone got any pointers? Would love to use my new keyboard soon!

I can't say for sure, as I haven't gone through the entire process, but I did get the impression from what I read on the forums, and from how far I'd tried myself that there is a way to toggle on and off the hardware buttons by some combination of power/volume/holding home button, and it would stay disabled until you re-enabled through this method....I may be wrong though. The other thread also seemed to imply that you could use only the software buttons used in the app....Sorry I can't give exact instructions. But then again, maybe I just misunderstood :p

I purchased my Note 10.1 2014 in late 2013. I've yet to get ANY bluetooth keyboard to stay connected to it, but the same keyboards work flawlessly, with no loss of connection with the two Tab 10.1 tablets my wife and son own. This evening, I decided to contact Samsung and do an online "chat" with a support rep. I've included the dialogue below (my apologies if it seems lengthy, but the perseverance that both I and the rep maintained is interesting. Admission that there is a known problem proved to be difficult to gain....

Robin C: Hi, thank you for reaching out to Samsung technical support. How may I assist you?
James Graham: Hello. I own a Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition. You are probably aware of the Bluetooth connectivity problem. I cannot maintain a Bluetooth connection with ANY Bluetooth keyboard that I've tried. When I purchased the tablet, I also purchased the newest Galaxy TAB 10.1 for my son and my wife. I have tried the same keyboards with their tablets and they work flawlessly. What must I do to make my Note 10.1 maintain a connection?
Robin C: I understand you are unable to connect to bluetooth device. I would be glad to assist you.
Robin C: Could I the Note model number? You can find it in Menu>>Settings>>About Device.
James Graham: Sure. The model number is: SM-P600.
Robin C: Thanks for providing model number.
Robin C: Are you using Note compatible bluetooth device?
James Graham: According to the manufacturer, it is Note compatible, plus the case was specifically made for the Note.
Robin C: Accessories - Wi-Fi Tabs SM-P600 | Samsung Galaxy Tab
Robin C: Please click on the above link to see all the compatible accessories for the Note.
Robin C: Are you able to access the above link?
James Graham: I'm trying....
Robin C: Please go ahead.
James Graham: Yes, I've seen this webpage before. I am aware of the keyboard offered by Samsung. What I find difficult to believe is that it is the ONLY keyboard that will supposedly work with the Note 10.1 (2014). I should mention here that it isn't just maintaining a keyboard connection that drops after a short while (and sometimes immediately). I've seen many others with my model experiencing the exact same problem.
Robin C: This could be a compatibility problem.
Robin C: Please confirm the model number of the keyboard.
James Graham: Hold on....
Robin C: Sure, go ahead.
James Graham: The model is "IVSO". The link is here: Amazon.com: IVSO Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014& Tab PRO 10.1 Edition Bluetooth Keyboard Portfolio Case - DETACHABLE Bluetooth Keyboard Stand Case / Cover for Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition& Tab Pro 10.1 Tablet (Black): Computers & Accessories
Robin C: I will be right with you.
Robin C: I have checked the information.
James Graham: Thanks.
Robin C: The keyboard is not compatible with the Note.
Robin C: Samsung is working on the keyboards for 2014 Note models.
Robin C: Once they are released, it will be updated in Samsung website.
James Graham: Ok. Let me just ask a few more things... 1) I'm surprised that it's not compatible given that out of 319 reviews written about it on Amazon, most are happy with it. That doesn't suggest a compatibility issue. 2) When you state that Samsung is "...working on the keyboards for 2014 Note models", do you mean that Samsung is working on the keyboard problem with the Note 2014 that so many owners are experiencing? My assumption that this is the case since you mention a release on the website.
James Graham: 3) Is there an approx. timeline for release of KitKat for the Note 2014?
Robin C: The next update could be 4.4 Kit Kat.
Robin C: Once the update is released, you will receive a notification.
Robin C: You can check it in Apps>>Settings>>About Device>>Status.
James Graham: Ok. Thanks. What about question #2?
Robin C: Yeah. Samsung is going to release the keyboards which are compatible with the Note.
James Graham: So, not to be annoying, but is it a compatibility problem that is to be fixed with a software or firmware release for the tablet? Or, are you talking about the release of a keyboard? Since the Galaxy TAB has no problem with the keyboards, but the Note 2014 DOES have a problem, I would think that Samsung is working ona _fix_ for the Note 2014, not a fix for a specific Bluetooth keyboard.
Robin C: A new update could fix the issue.
James Graham: A new "update" to what? the Note 2014's firmware or a new update to a keyboard? And it "could" fix the issue? I would think that an update _will_ fix the issue. Is this the case?
Robin C: The new firmware update could fix the keyboard issue.
James Graham: That doesn't sound very reassuring. Why "could" instead of "will"? Apologies for "straining at a gnat", but I would like to think that the bluetooth keyboard problem inherent in the Galaxy Note 10.1, 2014 is a problem that Samsung is aware of and that they have or are at least working on a firmware solution to be installed by all Note 2014 users.
Robin C: Not to worry.
Robin C: We appreciate customers telling us when thing are not right.
Robin C: We would make a note on your record and ensure that this doesn't happen again.
Robin C: I will forward your feedback to our appropriate department.
Robin C: They will work on the firmware and will fix it.
James Graham: Ok. Thanks for your patience. I hope the fix is soon because this is a feature (along with the S-Pen) that prompted my to purchase the Note 2014. Again, Thank you. James

I had the same issue and even went so far as to send my GalaxyTab to the service people. They sent it back saying that they could not find any issue. They are in denial.... I even created a video showing the issue but they refused to look at it. I purchased two keyboard and neither would stay connected.

This is odd (some of us experiencing BT connectivity issues and others of us not) and I can't say I feel like Samsung is engaged in fixing this problem. I have the Logitech K810 and it works...always has worked...flawlessly with my GN2014. I don't know if the underlying problem is your keyboard of choice --meaning that some work with the tablet and others do not--or a firmware/software/whateverware bug that Samsung deigns not worth their while. It's frustrating to me and how Samsung has chosen to not support this tablet is also frustrating. And yet...I still love my tablet and have, for the most part, been able to find a fix here from some kind soul for every problem so far.

I also have this problem on my note 10.1. My solution was to use a bluetooth headset play musics while connecting to keyboard, which work perfectly but not so convenience. However, with update to Kitkat (4.4.2) today, the connection problem gone.

I just got the 810 keyboard to go with my Samsung Note 10.1/2014. Keyboard pairs and never drops that I have been able to tell, BUT

There seems to be a problem. If I type some text and then try to insert text in front of it, then it becomes intermixed. So, if I type "abcdefghi" and move in front of the "a" and type "01234" I get:

0a1b2c3d4efghi

And the cursor ends up between the e and f.

But now, mysteriously it seems to have started working correctly again.

I did not see the problem at all when connected to Win7 or my Samsung S4 phone.

Am I going crazy?

Paul
