Samsung Galaxy Note 3 - Does anyone else think the camera sucks?

Re: Does anyone else think the camera sucks?

When that Note gets home, I'll take another shot with that legendary low light setting, for crying out loud. Although I suspect you'll accuse me of something else. Nothing will apparently make you happy. Why don't you just get another phone and move on?

Great. I look forward to your post. Still waiting on the comparison shots promised by Johnly weeks ago...

Re: Does anyone else think the camera sucks?

If you guys do a Google search except for this thread No where can you find any one complaining about the camera. I have been taking Great pictures. I read of people complaining and hoping for an update. But there is no update coming to fix the camera because there is no software problem with the camera. There is only hardware problems. I have ask over and over why keep the phone if you are going to complain about it. If your pictures are bad it is your fault for keeping the phone with a bad camera. Even with a professional camera you have to make adjustments to light among other things to get the picture that you like. This thread has gone on for so long and guys we should let the complainer just have their thread. With some of the complainers all you have to do is check some of their other post and you can tell who are trolls and who are not. Since I paid $700 I will not say this phone takes great pictures if it doesn't. Those that are having problems and you paid your hard earned money why haven't you replaced it? I know of people that went through 3-4 phones before getting one that work. There have been a bad batch of phones. If you tried different settings and it is still not focusing return it. It is insane for the same 4-5 people to me to come on this thread day after day to complain about the same issue and do not do anything about it but complain. It is almost like you are trying to convince the people that are not having a camera issue that they are having one. Again there is no software update for the camera in the U.S unless you have one from overseas in which they got an update to fix a problem with their camera to repair something an prior update messed up. The problem is either 2 things 1. The person behind the phone! 2. A hardware problem.

It's a software problem.

Thank you for saying what needed to be said.

Believe me, if this phone was not up to par, back it would go in a heartbeat.

If you are having buyer's remorse and can't admit it, that is something else.

Why don't you just go enjoy your Ansel Adams-esque features and not worry about those of us who have higher expectations of quality than do you?

Re: Does anyone else think the camera sucks?

Mine has been underperforming also. Please try "Camera MX" from the play store and report back. It appears to be a stock camera issue. The blur effect was happening to me also.View attachment 91041 cameramx photo.

Your Note 3 will perform better on shots like these in HDR mode. You appear to have your phone set to auto in this photo. Sometimes in auto, the Note 3 thinks it has enough light when it doesn't, so it turns off stabilization processing when it shouldn't, and the photos come out washed out and blurry. Hopefully, an update will come soon to fix the software.

Oh brother.

And btw, hotshot, i didn't buy the phone for its teeny tiny camera, i bought it for its size and multitude of other features.

Smh.

Your Google-Fu is weak grasshopper......behold a simple Google search reveals not just this thread, but many, many others reporting similar lack of confidence in the quality of the Note 3 camera.

https://www.google.com/#q=Note 3 camera issues

I realize this is hard for some posters to believe, but their opinions and experiences are not any greater than the posters above/below them. In the age of self-centerdness.....this is a hard pill to swallow.

While it's a breath of fresh air to have one of you finally admit to the camera's shortcomings, this isn't about you.

The first couple of reviews on your link seem to like the camera. They are saying it is about the same as the S4 with better video recording for the Note 3. At what part of your link do the multitude of Note 3 camera problems get discussed?

No you are wrong look at my previous post. A lot of people overseas and in Canada had issues after an early update. I even posted a video of the problem. It was caused by an earlier update. There is no update coming to the U.S. for the camera. The only update is because of the sound being garbled. There was an update for the camera but for the quad core overseas. That is why I said unless you have one from over seas. Coming to this thread everyday and saying the same thing will not help your problem.

First off, how very prescient of you to be able to predict the future by guaranteeing that there will never be a software update for my Note 3 to resolve camera quality. Please private mail me so I may ask you some very pertinent questions about next January's SuperBowl spread? I have great need of your abilities to see into the future.

Secondly, by comparison, me posting on this thread about my displeasure with the quality of the pictures produced by the Note 3 is actually quite helpful. It gives me great pleasure to watch your rationalizations devolve into "DOES NOT! DOES NOT! DOES NOT! NAH NAH NAH NAH DOES NOT!" drivel. By comparison, my complaints seem to have an overwhelming impact on your lack of self control. Merely posting anything negative gives you an uncontrollable urge to post a rebuttal, doesn't it?

There seems to be only one of us negatively influenced by the postings of the other. And, in my own way, I'm going to predict the future here and guess that YOU are having great difficulty reading this and really, really struggling to not reply with a witty and artful retort. Lets see if my forecasting abilities are as strong as your own.

I'm not admitting anything about the camera just stating a fact.

After some consideration about this thread, I've decided you guys that are having problems can deal with them on your own. I'm happy with the phone, and if i really, really need to take pictures in the dark, I'll just grab my night vision attachment. Don't expect those comparison pictures later, that's a losing proposition and I'm done playing that game.

They should move this thread to the Politics forum, it's getting that bad. I hope it's shut down soon. I'm done with this ridiculousness.

Better threads have been shut down for less.

So why have you not returned your phone? I did not say that you were wrong? But what is going to change by you 5 guys saying the same thing over and over on this forum. For some reason it seams like you guys think that everyone on this thread is lying about their camera being good. Other then you 4-5 people no one have complaints. Don't get me wrong I am not saying you are not having problems. If you paid full price like I did you should return it. And by the way that Google search leads back to this forum. Complain to Samsung... Ohh by the way don't take it personal!!! I'm not!!!

Thank you for proving me correct.

In fact, this is my THIRD Note 3 phone. All from Verizon. The first had the boot-looping issue that made it pretty much unusable. The second had the same issue, but this time, i received great help from a poster here on these boards, put the phone into Safe mode, and spent literally a week and dozens of hours slowly installing apps one by one until I found several likely culprits. Verizon twiddled with the OS it seems and created a rare (but not isolated) situation where their 'version' of Knox doesn't play nice with certain location-aware apps. As a result, the wrong mix of apps and the phone will just hard-crash to a black screen. I screwed with that one so much I hard bricked it, couldn't even recover it via Kies firmware recovery. So I exchanged it for my current third device.

All three exhibited the same lack of quality in photographs taken with the camera.

And as I said earlier....some of us have higher expectations of quality than do you and your chorus of supporters. Doesn't mean I'm right and you are wrong, nor the inverse. It means I have an opinion not shared by you. No need for you to insist I sit down and shut up. Unless somehow you believe that me having and sharing an opinion somehow invalidates your own? If so, that is a very dicey philosophy and I suggest you cancel your internet access immediately. Lots of people out there, lots of opinions, and you won't always be in the majority for safety and comfort.

I am not telling you to sit down and shut up.You paid your money like I paid my money return it again. If I was having an issue with my phone I will return it over and over until the problem is fixed or get a new different phone. Why hold on to it? When I say there is no update coming to the camera means to fix the issues you are having there is no update for that... There will be update coming down the line to add more features to the camera. I got that information from a source at Verizon. I can Not Stress it enough Take your phone back!!!

Re: Does anyone else think the camera sucks?

I took these in a dim room. I tapped both to focus on the stool.

Note 3 on auto with image stabilization on.

Haha, the infamous "stool in the dark" picture. I find it humorously symbolic that you keep posting a picture of a stool in the dark which is a perfect capture of what my opinion is of some of you, in the dark and full of....stool.

At least you've realized that it could possibly be a software setting that's not giving you the results you seek, although expecting stellar results in a dark room doesn't make much sense to me, and asking someone else that's satisfied with their phone to take more pictures under your conditions seems even more vexing.

If we all admit that the phone's camera is an abomination, will you then kindly relieve yourself of this maligned excuse of a camera phone for something else? I hear the iPhone has the end-user training wheels you seek in a consumer device. Hurry, while supplies last!

(Oh and with regards to your pics, is that a stool from Superman's home planet, because I don't think I've ever seen a red stool like the one you say you took with what you deem is a better camera? I don't assume that the color is that distorted on what you claim is a superior camera shot because that would be just silly, especially considering how convinced you are that one pic is better than the other.)

This is one of the best android cameras there is. If your needs of higher photo quality are not satisfied by the Note 3 you may have to join the Windows / Nokia contingent.

Re: Does anyone else think the camera sucks?

First this is a camera phone so let's cut this photo 101 bs. Simply previous models and the competition take better photos. Also how do you explain some of the photos coming out okay a d other not so much when they were shot in the same situation and lighting. A course I could tweak a ton of things with the cameras setting but that's besides the point because I don't have 4 minutes to adjust for each shot. My job requires high resolution stills to capture ideas for products. I can't stop and measure if the exposure is right. Also black is the universal platform most jewelers shoot on. All you advise is valid just stupid since it is impractical

You need to take the jewelry out into the bright sun, place it on green pasture surrounded by perfectly white sheep against a backdrop of a cloudless blue sky, use your metering to focus only on the wooly white sheep and then snap the picture. Perfect results every time.

...except for the larceny charges that follow. And since it will take you an hour or more to setup each shot, you will surely get caught by the authorities quickly.
