Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Gear not unlocking phone

I set the gear manager to unlock my phone if I am wearing the gear but it still wants the pattern unlock. Any ideas?

I don't usually have a lock set but I thought the phone stayed unlocked as long as the Gear was in range. Have you tried it with a Pin lock rather than the pattern?

Have you tried to restart both the phone and the gear?
