Samsung Galaxy S 2 or Motorola Atrix 2

I have an ATRIX 2 and I am going to return it for the SGS II once I've had 3 bad A2 phones. I've had two bad A2's so far and I have to have had 3 bad phones before AT&T will let me have a different brand of phone.

The day after I got my 1st A2 it lost data completely and it had to be set back to factory presets for the data to work again.

My first and now the second ATRIX 2 keeps losing apps every time I restart the phone. This is a known defect with the phone (and a couple of other Moto phones) and Motorola is not stepping up and acknowledging that there is a problem. I have no doubt that the 3rd phone will have the same problems. There are people posting on the Motorola forums on the Motorola website about this problem and there has been no response from Motorola at all and you know that someone from Motorola is monitoring those forums.

On Wednesday, 10-26-11, I ended up having to contact Motorola to see if they knew of a fix due to the fact that the AT&T person did not know crap. The AT&T warranty person had me delete the data from 3 non-paid apps and then told me to reinstall the apps. I kind of laughed and told them that the data simply removed the settings I had made to the apps and didn't delete the apps from my phone. They put me on hold and then came back and said they had done all they could and I had to contact Motorola directly. (there were a few other things that the AT&T person had me do, but none of them really addressed what was wrong with the phone).

The Moto guy made me set the phone back to factory defaults AND then made me create a completely new Gmail account because he said my Gmail account was to blame. That is so much BS!

I finally got all of my apps put back on the phone last night (11-27-11) and restarted the phone last night and the phone lost apps right away. I restarted the phone twice last night and again this morning, and each time I've restarted the phone since, the phone has lost more and more apps.

This has been THE single worst experience I have ever had with a cell phone!

*Run* as fast as you can away from an ATRIX 2.

OTOH, I had an ATRIX 1 and it was an awesome phone. The screen on the A1 was just too small for me to keep the phone.

The SGS II has 2 times the internal memory of the A2 (SFS II is 16 GB vs 8 GB for the A2) and is faster (1.2 GHz on the SGS II vs. 1 GHZ on A2).

I have read about a few problems with the SGS II, but they don't appear to be as bad as the A2's problems. My SMS app drops the most of all of the apps and every time I lose that app, I also lose all of my texts that have been sent since the last time the app was lost from the phone.

This morning, my two alarms were deleted from the phone, also, and I depend on those to remind me to take my anti-rejection drugs (I had a kidney and pancreas transplant in April of this year). I ended up taking my anti-reject drugs two hours late due to the alarms being deleted. That is simply not acceptable and not good for me, either!

Yikes, sounds like you are having a terrible time. Good luck with your exchange. I hope you enjoy the GS2 as much as I do.

One word came to my mind as I was reading your post and it's "unacceptable". I say get rid of it and get GS2 instead. I complained about a few what seems like minor issues on these forums before. I got GS2 on the release day, put it through almost a month long extensive test and it had performed extremely well. A few annoyances I ran into were something I can live with. In the end it had proven to be a reliable phone, which sounds exactly like what you need. Good luck and HTH.

So I picked up an Atrix 2 at BB today (they matched the AT&T off-contract price of $449) so I could compare it first-hand to my SGS2. Here's my observations:

- The screen is just plainly better on the SGS2. The A2 is nice and bright, but the colors and especially the blacks are so much more vivid on the SGS2...the blacks on the A2 are more of a dark gray, or a noticeably backlit black. No contest here, especially for those that have already experienced SAMOLED+.

- The build is nice on the A2, it has a nice heft to it, and is comfortable to hold...although I don't like the separate hdmi and micro-usb ports being on the side, it negatively affects the visual and the clean lines of the phone. Also, I don't necessarily prefer the power button being on top, I have to reach my index finger up and over to bring it out of sleep, as opposed to using my thumb on the SGS2. It is also thicker than the SGS2, and that combined with the extra weight make it less likely to find a home in my front shirt pocket.

- The performance is slightly better on the SGS2 in regards to navigation of the UI. While the launchers on both are virtually the same in performance, when scrolling menus or especially web pages, the SGS2 has zero lag, while the A2 is a little choppy in comparison. The A2 also does not perform as well with pinch to zoom as the SGS2, even more choppiness there.

- The main UI (menus, etc) on the A2 has a white background with grayscale icons, as opposed the the black background with full color icons on the SGS2. Purely subjective, but I prefer the black backgrounds.

- The main reason I wanted to try the A2, the LED notification light, is somewhat disappointing. I came from BlackBerry, which is why this was a very desirable feature...but the LED notification light on the A2 is very small, and not very bright (compared to my experience with BB notification LED's). In fact, when compared to the noLED app on my SGS2, from across the room I was better able to tell that I had a missed call on the SGS2 (with noLED) than the A2, since the A2 LED light is very difficult to see from an angle in a bright room.

I have not had a chance to compare battery life between the two. I understand that the A2 has superior battery life than the SGS2...and while that may be the case, that alone wouldn't be enough to overcome the other deficiencies I've noted. Had I never spent any time with the SGS2, I'd be very happy with the A2...but circumstances as they are, I'll be taking the A2 back for a refund, now comfortable with the knowledge that I already own the best Android device available on AT&T, and the best device for my needs.

Actually I had an interesting time on the phone with At&t with my Original Motorola Atrix 4G, I've had three replacements on the phone due to random rebooting and MASSIVE overheating. AT&T warranty department said to me repeatedly that they could not replace the phone with a different one, so 1hr and 31 minutes later i finally made it to the resolutions desk and the manager opened a case and in 3 days i shall be called back to let me know if I will be allowed to switch to a different model.

Last week I bought the SGSII and my wife the Atrix 2. The SGSII was $100 and the Atrix 2 was free. Both are great phones. The SGSII seems easier and works flawlessly. The Atrix2 had a few minor issues such as call not ending or being able to end it, 1 day delay on text.

Build quality: Atrix seems sturdier maybe because it is thicker
Ease of use: SSGII
Battery life: Atrix 2 without a doubt
Screen: SGSII slightly
Call Quality: Same
Download/up speeds: Atrix 2
Value: Atrix 2

I still like the SGSII better but the Atrix 2 is a great phone especially since it was free.

dont get that atrix 2...get anything but that...that phone is pure craps...it has only like 1 gig of internal memory

When we upgraded, I got a SGS2, and my wife got an Atrix 2.

Fresh out of the box, the A2 was WAY slower than my SGS2. Even switching homepages was slow. There was noticeable lag. It's still that way today.

Build quality does seem a little better I guess for the A2, so if you plan on throwing your phone into walls and what not, that may be a concern for you. Since I can keep my temper in check and I have an opposable thumb on each hand, I'm not worried about this at all.

The camera is definitely better on the SGS2. Don't get me wrong, the A2's camera is fine, but it's certainly not as good as the SGS2.

The screen is like night and day between the two. If I had the option to switch for free to a more powerful phone with the A2 screen, I wouldn't.

Battery life seems to be slightly better on the A2 (way better after the SGS2 update), but does that really matter? I mean your smartphone is going to die if you don't charge it every night anyway. As long as it lasts me one day, I don't really care.

Clearly I prefer my SGS2 to my wife's A2. I would never trade my phone for hers. It honestly feels like you're using a much older phone.

Doesn't it have 8gb of internal memory?
1gb of ram it has.

I am a SGSII owner and think the Atrix 2 is a great phone. Just not as good as the SGSII. If the SGSII is 9/10 then the Atrix 2 is a 8/10.

Before I got the gs2 was going to get the atrix, because it was cheaper and paying 100 bucks more for the gs, thought it was not worth. But then i search for rom's / kernels for the atrix and uhm was very dissapointed not much for the atrix, while i was saying ok the roms/kenerl willbe available later, the phone is still to new,,, then the gs2 went for 1 cent refurb so it was all said.. And i don't regreat my decision.. I can get 17 hr on battery with 4 hours screen on time out of the stock battery ( of course not stock rom)

17 hr not on stock? Only? I get 1 day 4-10 hrs On Stock.
Not even rooted either and i'm on 2.3.6 with moderate heavy use. Hah

it have like 6 gb internal but it's only for OS and aplications, and comes with a 2gb micro sd. but for $15 you will get a 16gb memory so what is the BIG trouble!!!!

"I'm an atrix 2 owner and i'm searching reasons for get the GSII"!
