I use my phone primarily for 2D applications (i.e. reading large PDF files, opening large spreadsheets). I do not game on my phone. I'm thinking of getting an android phone.

The move from Samsung Galaxy S (Captivate) to Galaxy S II is the move from a single 1Ghz core to a dual 2x1Ghz core, and from PowerVR GPU to nVidia Tegra 2. However, based on the benchmarks, it seems that the largest improvement is in 3D performance and 2D performance seems to be the same.

Am I correct in my analysis? Would it make sense to just get a Samsung Galaxy S?

The OS isn't yet optimized to take advantage of both cores, so simple apps won't take advantage of the second core. That being said, the processor is improved so they should still run better (the other issue is, they don't run much better :p). The 2D performance mainly relates to graphics anyway, which also can't get much better than it is.
