Samsung Galaxy S2 SII S II GT-i9100 MHL cable not working

I have an i9100 and purchased a MHL cable; it has a micro USB output and a HDMI output. I plug it into my phone but it seems not to be recognized. I don't have the phone rooted; I'm on ICS. Please help.
