Samsung Galaxy S3 - Artists disappear from artist list

I have recently encountered a problem with Music Player for my Samsung Galaxy S3. An artist for whom I have 700 songs (1/3 of all music) disappeared from the artist list but all the albums are still in the album list. Is there a way to retrieve and restore the artist yo the artist list? My phone has the most recent update and was playing a song by that artist when I went to look at the list. I have not added or changed anything. My cloud was full but I upgraded to more memory (had already used the 25gb) but even after full backup the artist remains gone. Any ideas would be appreciated.
