Samsung Galaxy S3 not recognizing SD Card

When I went to Sprint for a similar issue, they told me that the most recent Samsung software updates rendered the SD card that came with it as deprecated. they said the old card was a class 2 and they are already up to class 4. So I just bought an updated card. Would have been nice for them to say something about that, I wouldnt have updated until I moved some things around. Luckily my apps & contacts are on Google and my pics are on Dropbox.

I found this forum on a google search because I am having a similar issue with a new S3. The difference is that it is saying it cannot find the internal SD card for some apps. I tried to install Copilot GPS but 2 or 3 error messages flashed by to quickly for me to read them then it says Unfortunately, Copilot GPS has stopped. Then I installed Mapfactor Navigator. On initial loading, I got a message saying "Cannot find SDcard". I put in a micro sd card and tried opening again and got the same message. I made sure I could browse the card and open files using ES File Explorer I had saved on it from my old tablet and it read them fine. I then started poking around settings and went into application manager and was able to move Mapfactor to the external sd card and it then worked fine, but moving Copilot did not solve the issue with that app. I have now downloaded Mysword (a bible study app) and on initial launch, it has a screen titled "Select Modules path. The first option is Default data path and when I click OK, I get a message saying "Creation of data path failed". It shows the path it is trying to create is /storage/emulated/0/mysword. I decided to use the option to create my own path and created a mysword folder on my external card and it let me continue on to download the modules, so I decided the problem was with the internal sd card not being writable so I went to the emulated/0 folder to see if I could make it writeable. I checked properties and it showed that it already was so I tried creating a new folder and it would not let me. Any suggestions on how to correct this short of possibly rooting?

Similar problem. Everything worked fine until I added music to SD card. Process went fine, confirmed files transferred to phone, etc. After unplugging phone from computer, no files were on SD card according to phone. It sees me take the card out and put it it, but gives me a message that card is blank or has unsupported files. Of course, I have the option to format the card, but I can put the card in my computer and see all the files just fine. The card is fine. But, the phone sees it as blank. I see a prior post suggest that the card could now be unusable by the phone regardless of the fact that the computer still sees it just fine. Seems odd, but I suppose the solution is a new SD card? I don't want to buy a new card every time I put new music on it! Any advice would be great. BTW, no data was lost; I do have everything backed up!

Hi.

I have the exact same problem with my 32GB micro SD. My S3 start complaining and stopped recognizing the card. At first I thought there was a problem with the phone card reader since I can access the card with my PC. But now I discovered that the S3 recognizes other cards. I'm backing uo the card and will try to format it. I still can exchange it with my 32GB camera micro SD but this is a very strange problem indeed. This card worked flawlessly for over 1 year in the phone and still works ok outside my S3.

If you bought your SD card from Ebay, don't. Too many scams going on there.

AC App on SGS3

I solved my problem, Maybe that can help somebody. Since my card was still recognized on the PC I back it up before formating. In the copy process I found several 0 bytes files in the DCIM/Camera folder with rubish caracthers in the name, I could not even delete those files. So I back up everything else, formated the card FAT32 as it was, copied back everything to the card and BOOM! It's working.

In this case could be those bad entries in the FAT pointing to 0 bytes files, since Andoroid scans the DCIM folder when you insert a card. It could totally crash the mount process and the card was being ignored.

So if you can use your card in the PC try this.

Regards

I'm having a similar issue.

My S3 won't recognize ANY SD card I put in it (tried 2 different SD cards.) At first it kept saying SD card unexpectedly removed, now it doesn't even say that.

I tried formatting to NTFS - that didn't work. Even tried re-formatting it back to exFat and nothing changed. I also tried the old nitendo, blowing into the sd card slot to remove dust that worked for some people but for me, nothing. Also tried rebooting, removing & inserting sd card - didn't help. Could it be a hardware issue, and if so is this fixable?

I'm thinking about buying a new phone since nothing seems to alleviate this issue but if anyone can provide a working solution on here that would help tremendously.

Will check in again, thanks.

If you are running KitKat 4.4.2, try running 'KitKat Writable MicroSD' or 'SD KitKat Fixer' from the Playstore.

Format Fat32 using the computer, not the phone.

I have another problem, my micro sdhc (15 GB) worked fine for 3-4 years until today.
I've noticed something bad: some of my applications as well as all of my music was gone, it said my ad card was removed but it was still there, I tried to remove it and re-insert it but nothing... need help plz

I It took me a while but i finally made my sd card work.

Install SDFormatter, format it with option full (overwrite) selected.

Normal format doesnt help and my card wasn't visible at any android device. It did however work on PC.
I hope this helps.

I wanted to share this tip, cause i had same problem and nothing heleped,i almost was about to buy a new tablet.

Try this tip from reddit

Now, go back info Settings, and all the way at the bottom you'll see a new option called 'Developer options.' Click on that, and scroll down till you find 'Force allow apps on external' (or you could search this phrase in Settings and click on the result). Enable it.

Worked like charm
